Your bird will be on the best track towards good health and happiness when fed a specially formulated diet for lovebirds. Lovebird diets may consist only of specialized pellets while others may include fortified seed mixtures or even dehydrated fruits and greens. At Petco, find an assortment of lovebird food to help even the pickiest of birds find a balanced diet they enjoy. As part of a balanced diet for your bird, include a variety of tasty bird treats. Treats should make up no more than 10% of a bird’s diet.
Specialized pellets should make up 60-70% of your lovebird's diet, along with fresh vegetables and fruits and small amounts of fortified seeds. Allocate no more than 10% of their total food intake for bird treats.
Fresh food and water should always be available. Vegetables and fruits not eaten within a few hours should be discarded and treats should not exceed 10% of total food intake.
Fresh fruits and vegetables such as bananas, zucchini, bell pepper, mango, peas and corn are a nice addition to their daily diet. Treats formulated for lovebirds are sure to be a feathered fan favorite, but should not make up more than 10% of their total diet. Birds should never be fed avocado, fruit seeds, chocolate, caffeine or alcohol as these can cause serious medical conditions. Sugar and high fat treats should also be avoided for the health of your pet. Consult your veterinarian for a complete list of foods your bird can and cannot eat.
