I have no problem with the product itself - my birds love it - but when I ordered the larger weight/quantity, I never imagined it wouldn't be packaged in the 8oz packages but in 3 clusters in plastic bags! I have no idea how I'm going to keep it all fresh!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Learned about this from an avian vet and my birds love the taste. I break it up and mix it with their other food but I notice they manage to pick it out and eat this first. I know it is healthier than seed and will continue to serve it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Be careful with the version you select - propylene glycol in some

I feed my parrots the fruit/nut version of this treat and they love it. I looked at this one and wonder why some of the versions (depending upon bird size) have to contain propylene glycol. I know this ingredient which has both food and industrial uses can be a bit controversial, but if it isn't contained in all versions of this product then is it at all necessary? I prefer to keep things as simple and natural as possible.

No, I do not recommend this product.

100ct shipping time

  1. Thank you for your inquiry. The 100ct ships ground 5-7 business days. You may absolutely choose to upgrade shipping on the 100ct to faster shipping.

Can these be frozen?

  1. Thank you for your question. The Lafeber's Avi-Cakes do freeze well. They do have to be at room temperature to feed.

Packaging for 20 lb option

  1. Thank you for your question. Each case contains 3 ziplock bags inside the cardboard box.

how can i only get one size?

  1. You can't pick different sizes, but they are quite small when you get them.

Are there Avi Cakes for canaries? There doesn't seem to be many treats for canaries. Why?

  1. You can give these to canaries. I have given them to my Red Factor Canary. I just crumble them up ontop of his seed. He does pick at them. He will try anything I give him lol. But he loves veggies and fruits.

which of the avi-cake formulas do you recommend for a caique?

  1. the one for "Parrots". That's the one i feed my white-bellied Caique and he absolutely LOVES it!

how do I know My conure is eating enough avicakes? I also have pellets

  1. Keep a close eye on her weight and make sure she isn't losing weight. One way is to make sure you can just feel her breastbone (keel). Bird should have a rounded chest where you can feel the keel easily but there is neither fat bulging out on either side as "birdie cleavage" or the keel jutting out. The space between the bottom of their keel and their pelvis should be barely concave (not pooching out) and their skin should show dark red organs and muscle beneath on the chest and abdomen, not yellow fat.

Care of crickets

  1. When I received my shipment of 500, there was only one dead one! You'll need about a 5 gal. size aquarium to keep them in. They are rather small when you get them, but they will grow while you have them. Their life expectancy depends on their age. Adults live I think 2-3 wks., while the younger ones are like 3-4 wks. Drs. Foster and Smith have an article here on their website about the care and keeping of crickets. They even have one on how you can breed your own! You need to keep them kind of warm (you can use a 40 watt bulb in a reflective dome) and also a little bit moist. Be sure to keep some type of food and etc. for them. I use Fluker's Calcium Fortified Diet and also Fluker's Calcium Fortified Quencher for their water needs. This gut loads my crickets and makes them much healthier to feed to my lizards. Check out the articles available to you on this website (Drs. Foster & Smith) and read the ones that relate to the type of pet you are feeding and raising. Good luck!
