Health & WellbeingMy dog did allergic reaction to grass (herbs), and took an anti inflammatory. I have been a while since I became interested in the advance dermaforte product, would it improve? My dog loves to walk in the grass.
DermaForte is a product that contains essential fatty acids. By "essential," we mean these are fatty acids that the body cannot synthesize itself, and therefore they must be consumed. Omega-3 fatty acids have been clinically proven to improve the signs of atopic dermatitis, which is sounds like Benji has. Unfortunately, this product you are looking at purchasing contains evening primrose oil as its source of EFAs, and research shows it is not very "bioavailable" which means it is difficult for the body to use, so it has limited efficacy.
For atopic dermatitis, I routinely recommend fish oils as a more bioavailable form of omega-3 fats. Good brands to look for include Welactin and 3-V. Both are available in capsules and liquid form. I will add that most atopic dermatitis patients need more than simply omega-3 FA therapy; as Dr. Macon has mentioned below they typically need hypoallergenic diets and/or immunosuppressive medications to control the itchiness.
