Betta fish—or Siamese fighting fish—are among the most popular freshwater choices for new fish parents. While you may often find these colorful and beautifully finned pets sold with tiny bowls or vases to live in, they actually need much more room and care than a plant vase can provide.
You can find a wide variety of live betta fish online. At Petco, we offer betta fish for sale, as well as tanks and accessories for your pet that you can buy on our website for Curbside Pickup or have conveniently delivered to your home. Betta fish are also commonly available for sale at Petco Pet Care Centers near you, although not all varieties seen online will always be available in-store.
While a betta fish can live in a 2.5-gallon enclosure, a 5-gallon aquarium is ideal. Make sure to avoid overcrowding any betta fish types, as this can potentially be a significant cause of stress and disease. Also, be sure to provide adequate filtration and maintain high-quality water conditions with regular water changes.
The best way to introduce two betta fish together is first with an adjacent tank. This is a separate tank outside the aquarium or inside the aquarium with a divider. This way they can see each other without touching each other and you can see how they interact. Watch how they behave together as it can take a little time to learn to get along.

Feeding them twice a day—once in the morning and once at night—in small amounts is ideal for their well-being.
In nature, betta fish eat a diet of insects and larvae that betta’s upturned mouths can easily snatch from the water’s surface. To replicate this at home, feed your pet a variety of betta fish food, including flakes, pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms and thawed frozen food to ensure they are receiving complete nutrition from their food.
Before you buy a betta fish online or in-store, it’s time to set up their new home. First, ensure that your aquarium is large enough to keep your pet comfortable, then start to assemble their new environment. Bettas have even been known to play with toys and decor in their aquariums, such as silk plants.

What type of fish can I keep with my adult male betta fish, he is in a 3 gallon tank.
My male Crowntail Betta fish is acting very lethargic, he stays at the bottom of the tank and only coming up for air, barely eats, his stomach looks hollow, and the scales along his back are raised. He has been this way for a few weeks but isn't getting better. I change his water weekly, and he lives in an environment where his is not caused stress.
My betta fish is bloated and has a dark patch on his left side where the scales are not laying flat. What I tried feeding him a pea, but it didn't help. Please help!
I have a question about our betta fish. He seems to be hanging at the top of the tank, not moving much. We have a heater and the tank is at the right temp. He only started doing this the last couple of days. He isn't really eating or moving around. Just sitting high up at the top of the tank.
I just cleaned my Betta fishes tank I put the same stuff as usual and a couple hours later he started just sitting at the bottom of the tank with his fins clamped together and now he's just sitting at the top and like vibrating his fins then clamping them shut again and I've noticed he lost a lot of his color

I have 2 Mystery Snails and a betta in a 3.5G tank. Tank is filtered and has a heater. One snail has not grown at all while the other has nearly doubled in size. He is lathargic and I rarely see him eat his food or even come out of the shell. His shell has turned to a dull dark brown colour and looks to be cracking a little bit. Does this sound like a water issue? Does he sound sick? What can I do to help him. In the last picture, he is the smaller snail in the front.
