Guinea Pig Cages and Habitats

Give your pet a comfortable home with our guinea pig cages and habitats. Did you know guinea pigs thrive with a regular routine? Their daily play, feeding and sleeping time relies on a proper habitat.

We always recommend the biggest habitat possible for your furry friends—especially if you’re housing more than one guinea pig. For one guinea pig alone, the cage should be a minimum of 36"L x 30"W x 18"H. They should always have plenty of room to play and exercise throughout the day. At Petco, we have plastic and metal cages for guinea pigs as big as four levels high. These habitats can either sit on top of a sturdy table, come with their own standalone base, or some varieties have wheels for easy movement away from seasonal changes (such as direct sunlight or drafty windows). You can set up their cage in any comfortable room in your house with steady temperatures that don’t exceed 80°F.

When setting up your guinea pig’s cage, remember to include 1-2” of bedding. This bedding is commonly either paper or hardwood pieces. Unlike some other small critters, cedar is not a recommended bedding type for guinea pigs. They should always have access to fresh water and food in their cages. And guinea pigs will appreciate accessories for their favorite activities: playing, chewing and hiding.
