There are a variety of heat lamps, to include infrared, ceramic and basking, available to help keep your reptile's habitat at the proper temperature. Reptiles are cold-blooded and need heat to be able to digest their food so a heat lamp is required by most. There are a variety of types available, but the wattage of the bulb is going to be dependent on the type of reptile you are housing and the size of your terrarium.
Infrared is also a heat lamp, but these produce a red color which reptiles cannot see so they can be used day and night.
All heat lamps produce heat which means they can cause a burn if touched. Make sure to use caution when moving fixtures on your terrarium and ensure nothing flammable is placed near your heat lamp.
