I like not having multiple lights on top of the cage. This makes it easier

I had 3 of these. I loved them. They work well in my low profile tanks and with limited outlet space... wherever I can save plug space..AWESOME. It's nice to have a dual lamp in my situation versus multiple fixtures. I feel it puts off decent heat and all my reptiles are healthy. Remember, change those UVB bulbs every 9-12 months at the latest people! But at last my 3rd and final one came to the same fate as the other 2, the switch broke! I don't know why it happened to all 3, I don't manhandle switches and I am not a beastly strong person at all, but something inside the switch breaks and it wont switch on/off anymore. I believe this last one lasted about 1.5 years maybe. Perhaps a little longer. The others didn't last a year until the switch broke. I gave it 3 stars because despite the switch issue I had, its reasonably priced, looks nice, saves space, and gets the job done...till it breaks.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Works great for leopard geckos at 12 inches away

Great fixture for leopard geckos and shorter enclosures around 12 inches tall. I use the 25W halogen bulbs and my leopard geckos love basking under it along with the UVB bulb. Might not be enough for bearded dragons and higher temp needing reptiles, but works great for crepuscular species.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I was super excited about this fixture as I had two traditional heat bulbs break within a few days, wasting almost $40! So I figured why not put out another $40 for this awesome-sounding 2-in-1 fixture? It looks great but other than that I'm pretty disappointed. The halogen heat bulb only raises the temp in the terrarium between 5 and 10 degrees, depending on how far away my beardie is from the fixture. Since I keep it 70 degrees in my house, she needs more of a heat boost than that. The fixture itself also gets very hot, which worries me as it sits directly on the screen and cannot be hung from a hook or clamped on like a traditional heat lamp. I read through the reviews before making this purchase, and I'm surprised no one else is disappointed in the heating element. Now I have to go buy yet another incandescent bulb!

No, I do not recommend this product.

could i use a ceramic heat emitter instead of light/basking bulb?

  1. For more information about this product, please contact our knowledgeable team at 1-888-255-4527. They’re available to assist you!

Would this light be good for a turtle I believe mine is a red eared one and I’m looking for a new heat lamp. If it can be used for my turtle basking is it allowed to just sit at the top of the screen cover that goes over the tank? I want to know it safe

  1. Hello! The Zilla Heat & UVB Basking Fixture would be a great addition for your Red-Eared Slider!

I have a 30 gallon Exo Terra terrarium 36x18x12 large low..  will the 50 W be enough for her warm spot and a basking area? Also, which day time bulb would be best? UVB or non? Abs now many watts? Everywhere I look never gives a guide. Leopard gecko.

  1. Hi! Depending on room temp, that will determine the terrarium temp with a heat/basking bulb. Ideal temperatures Leopard Geckos range from 75-80°F on the cool side and 80-85°F on the warm side. Provide a 90-95°F basking area on the warm side. While Leopard Geckos don’t need UVB to survive, UVA/UVB light has been shown to greatly improve the immune system, health, and wellness of all reptiles, both diurnal and crepuscular. Using a Low Profile Dual Fixture with a Zilla 50W Mini Halogen bulb and a Zilla Desert Mini Compact Fluorescent UVB Bulb will provide the correct heat and UV for your Leopard Gecko to thrive.

Can I use this for my crested gecko 12x12x24 terrarium?

  1. I would think if your are using the suggested bulbs in this fixture, it would be too hot for a crested gecko. This fixture with a 26w Uvb and a 25 w halogen get extremely hot. The actual outside will burn you. Cresties do best at room temperature. I have some of my cresties in bioactive enclosures with UVB and others in enclosures without it. Being nocturnal, they don't need it. This is not a light fixture I use with my crested geckos so I would not recommend it for that purpose.

Would this work for a 10g tank with a corn snake? And then a 40g when it gets bigger. The room the snake is going into is my room and even with this weather in PA I have a fan on. I have a heat pad but I wanted this for a little peace of mind.

  1. It is important to create a thermal gradient (or a warm and cool side) in the cage/enclosure. This can be done with an appropriate sized Zilla Heat Mat adhered to the bottom of the tank on one side. Ideal temperatures for Corn Snakes range from 75-82°F on the cool side and 80-85°F on the warm side. Provide an 88-92°F basking area on the warm side. Using a Zilla Mini Heat & UVB Fixture with a Zilla 50W Mini Halogen bulb and a Zilla Tropical Mini Compact Fluorescent UVB Bulb will provide the correct heat and UV for your Corn Snake to thrive. While Corn Snakes don’t need UVB to survive, UVA/UVB light has been shown to greatly improve the immune system, health, and wellness of all reptiles, both diurnal and crepuscular. Make sure to place the light over the side with the heat mat to help create that warm side of the thermal gradient. Spot clean the enclosure for urates and feces once a week. Every 3 months remove all substrate in order to clean and disinfect the tank and décor.

If I hang this lamp up over the glass top, will it work? I’m struggling to find a lamp for glass top.

  1. Hi there! The glass would filter out the UVB benefits.

I have a musk turtle in a 20 gallon long tank with a glass cover. Can this fixture be set on the glass aquarium cover?

  1. Hi there! These should be used with a screen top.

How deep does the light go into the tank

  1. Hi there, this will shine throughout the majority of the tank. If you have any further questions about the gradient of heat and light, we encourage you to reach out to our friendly team of experts on the Zilla Consumer Care team at 1-888-255-4527. We're here to help!

Does this come w/bulb?

  1. It does not. I purchased a led spiral heat bulb that's supposed to be energy efficient.

HOW TO KNOW UVA AND UVB BOTH ARE WORKING WILL LIGHT GO OUT IF ONE STOPS WORKING

  1. Bulbs need to be replaced at a minimum of every 12 months, 6 months is even better.  To determine if uvb has degraded below your pets needs you must have a uvb meter to measure the bulbs output.  Just replace them once per year or less and you’ll be fine.
