Good question. You are doing a good job keeping her calm. Often closing them in a dark room or crate with the music on will help too. Yes, the calming supplements do help and also the thunder shirt. I use Solliquin in my practice but they do sell several kinds at PetCo. They may not fully resolve the anxiety but they will reduce it without drugs. Hello. Petco carries a number of products that might help. Zymox makes a spray & a salve that contains hydrocortisone, that can really help with the itching. On-line, you can find many more products such as shampoos & conditioners that also contain hydrocortisone. Topicals only work for short periods of time. Longer relief can be obtained with immunostimulants such as Apoquel & Cytopoint, both available from your veterinarian. Your pet may also have additional issues such as skin mites, fleas, bacterial & yeast infections in the skin, & your veterinarian can certainly help to sort some of these issues out. What can I buy for my dog for flea dermatitis
If there is a secondary bacterial infection, I would recommend using product called Duoxo Chlorhexidine + Calm shampoo and bathe twice weekly until resolved. I would also recommend picking up a hydrocortisone spray (Well and Good at Petco) and apply daily to the affected area to relieve inflammation. If it does not resolve or worsens, I would have a veterinarian take a look at Harley so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!
