Thank you for using Boop by Petco! Prozac, or the generic medication fluoxetine is safe for dogs, even with heart murmurs. It may cause slight sedation. Natural products may not be as reliably effective, and may also cause sedation. These should also not have any affect on Bradley’s murmur. I definitely recommend avoiding giving both natural chews and Prozac at the same time. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you have!

I usually don't expect to see positive changes for at least 6 weeks. You may want to discuss these side effects with your vet to see if there might be a better anxiety medication to use - there is no one best medication for all dogs, sometimes it is trial and error. I can't really tell you what to expect next, since every dog is so different. I would not expect that his current side effects would get worse, though.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! It takes 2-4 weeks for Prozac to reach therapeutic blood levels. If at 4 weeks you are noticing minimal affects I would consult your Vet and ask to increase the dose if possible, or change drugs if you are at the maximum dose. You can also add in short acting drugs like Trazadone to use with the Prozac to calm him more during training or specific events where he needs to be calmer. The most important thing for you to do first with Bongo is master the basic commands. I also recommend the gentle leader harness that goes on the muzzle. If you can't get him to learn basic commands and are plateauing with training I recommend a veterinary behaviorist or a trainer specific to your issues. I wish you the best!

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question. Twenty mg of fluoxetine given once daily to a 47lb dog is within the recommended dose range, so yes it is safe. The trazadone dose is also within the recommended dose range when used in combination with a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, which is the classification of fluoxetine. There is n increased risk of developing a disorder called serotonin syndrome when these two drugs are used together, but the lower dose range of trazadone is used when they are given together to try to prevent that. The normal dose range of trazadone is higher than what Hank is currently being given. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Yes, they are all human medications used off label in animals. There are long acting drugs like prozac, zoloft, clomicalm, etc and then short acting medications like trazadone, acepromazine, xanax, etc. These drugs need to be prescribed by your Vet and work best with behavioral training. I hope this helps and I wish you and Buddy the best!
