Hi tony is on amlodipine for hi blood pressure and my vet is getting ready to start him on mirtazapine appetite stimulant so he’ll hopefully eat his kidney diet. Can mirtazapine affect his blood pressure? Thx
Mirtazapine is safe to use with amlodipine. Mirtazapine at high doses could potentially decrease blood pressure, but at typically prescribed doses, it is safe to give with amlodipine. Your vet may want to monitor blood pressure a few days after starting the mirtazapine just to be sure its all looking good. Thanks for asking Boop by Petco!

My 14 year old cat has bern diagnosed with primary hypertension due to all blood tests returning normal. She is on Norvasc but has develooed muscle weakness in her hind limbs. Is this a side effect of Norvasc? The muscle weakness in hind legs came
No that is not a side effect I would expect. I would be more concerned about her having a blood clot in the artery leading to the leg with that history. High blood pressure can predispose cats to throwing blood clots. I would recommend getting her to a vet for evaluation ASAP.
