Adding a new pet to the house is often stressful for the existing pet. I would make sure you continue to provide her with plenty of love and attention. Do not force her to interact with the new dog, and let her hide from it as that is how she is dealing with the stress. She will adjust to the dog over time, but if she starts shows signs of aggression to you or the dog, some behavioral modifications will have to be done as she isn't adjusting well. Give her treats, play with her, and continue to show the same amount of love and attention you had given her previously so she doesn't feel replaced.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. First, thank you for adopting Maggie. It is always heartwarming when someone takes an adult dog into their homes. I did this several months ago with a pair of bonded adult mix breeds. I am so glad that Maggie is doing well after her illness. The influenza virus has been tough on some dogs. You have not had her very long,

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Charley and your dog are very cute! It is going to be very hard to make this happen. Since they are never inside together there is no way to train either of them or desensitize them to each other. Ideally the dog should have been trained with the cat when she was a puppy. At that time allowed to play with her and learned not to attack the cat with your help and by Charley smacking her. Now your dog is fully grown and can easily hurt Charley and may think she is prey when she runs. The only way to safely do this is to bring the dog in the house with a leash and a basket muzzle on and allow them to spend time together in the same room. Teach the dog to not chase the cat when it runs away. This will take a long time and I don't know if I would ever feel fully comfortable with them alone together. You may be surprised though and find that the dog doesn't chase the cat maliciously. Cats over all take a long time to adjust to change but most of the time t

Great questions! Given that Benny has severe travel anxiety, it would be best for you and him to move in first so that he can get used to his new place. Then your best friend and boyfriend should move it with their dog. I can give you a method for introducing them to each other: Introducing them should be done slowly. When they first bring their dog home, I would keep them in rooms separated by a door. This way, they can get used to the smells and sounds of each other without contact. Make sure Benny has a litter box, food, and water in his room. You can also place a blanket with the dog's smell in the cat's room, and a blanket with the cat's smell in the dog's room. I would also consider get a Feliway for your cat and a DAP for the dog. These are pheromone diffusers that help with anxiety and should also help ease the transition. Once both pets seem relaxed with the current situation, swap rooms placing Benny in the dog's room and vice versa. You can do this switch several t

I am guessing that, like most other homes, the things in yours (furniture, rugs, curtains, appliances, etc.) are stationary. After a while, he doesn't really "see" them . . . they just become background stuff. Then along comes Duchess, who runs and jumps and plays! She's like a moving picture for your dog, so she becomes his focus. Your information doesn't specify whether or not Duchess is spayed. If not, she may also be coming into season, and that could be interesting to the dog too. Be thankful that they have bonded instead of trying to kil each other!
