Hello. If you can fit the original cage in your car, that would be best. You have a relatively short trip, so I do not think this will be overly stressful for him. Remove the food & water, make sure the cage is well anchored in case you have to hit the breaks & cover the cage with a light sheet. At your destination, place the cage in the quietest room possible & try to keep curious family members from attempting to engage your bird. Try to keep to your normal schedule with Sunny as much as possible & everyone should do great. Have a good visit & thanks for using Boop by Petco.

I am sorry for your loss. Cats, opossum, & raccoons are all very adept at hooking & pulling a small bird thru the cage bars. You must protect your birds with a strong enclosure. Perhaps you can build a box using strong lumbar & wire cloth. Otherwise, bring your cages in at night to protect your precious birds. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Both your birds look pretty young still! Cere color changes are normal as parakeets reach sexual maturity. Females will typically get a pinkish or brownish cere when they are ready to breed, while makes will often get a deep bluish cere. Younger birds can have a mix of colors that will deepen/change as they become mature. As for taming, if you find they have a favorite treat, such as a piece of fruit or spray of millet seed, etc, you can use this to help them get used to you. Every time you approach their cage, you can offer a bit of treat until they are comfortable having you around. From there, you can move onto offering the treat to be taken from your hand, and then work up to petting or even handling them, each time offering a treat. If they become too nervous or upset, simply go back to the previous step they were comfortable with and try again from there.

If the skin is broken and bleeding, Lemon Drop is at risk for infection. Even if you have no local avian veterinarian, a small animal vet should be able to treat her. A specialist can be consulted online or by phone. The antibiotics and medications used are similar, just the dose is much smaller. A small e-collar (cone) may need to be fashioned to prevent her from plucking. In the meantime, lean and sanitize the cage, bowls, toys and perches. Discard anything that cannot be sanitized. Use paper towels on the cage bottom and change them daily to keep the cage clean. Provide a variety of toys and treats to keep her distracted from picking. Bathe or mist her with warm water a few times a week to promote preening and healthy skin and plumage.
