This is my 3rd purchase with each lasting less than two years. If it wasn't for the day/night light, I would go with another brand.

Failed in same way as others reported-rusty switch

efgklnj

Clearly a design defect, though in my instance it lasted me ~4 years until the issue started. Rest assured ultimately the switch will become rusted and glitchy; perhaps in days perhaps in years. I pulled mine apart and noticed the rust. The defect is because the housing is not adequately sealed (or sealed at all). Depending on your tank and how high its filled/close the water reaches to the lid, will affect failure speed.

Marineland led light

Shadow 123

I got as a present and it seems to be all kinda glitchy. Turns off on its own with in 30 min and always having to mess with it to keep light on. Don't buy 1 unless they make so major quality control improvements...

Same issue as everyone else

These are not cheap to buy but certainly cheaply made. Have replaced both of mine multiple times and from now reading the reviews I see that it's an ongoing quality issue and the same canned response from the manufacturer.

Light switch and and light

Texasmike

Bought this as part of a marine land kit switch and lights are very sensitive to moisture and don't always work open the light bar up one time to dry it out and and found switch was corroding and not all the lights working. Had to dry everything off and not use the light for a few days had to pull the cover from the lights to clean all the algae off the clear lens that is part of the light

Thank you for your comments. It does not have the capability to snap into that slot like the light that comes with the tank so you do have to remove it prior to lifting the lid. So that we can help you, email petsupport@spectrumbrands.com.<!--[if ReviewResponse]><![endif]-->

Marineland. What is the part number for the power adapter connector on the Light itself, so we can buy the part on allied electronics or equivalent?

 1. We do not have a part number for it since it only comes with the light. It is a 22 watt adapter.

will this be too much light for a 5.5 gallon ( 16x8) I have all live plants

 1. In my humble opinion, YES!...unless you want to tan your fishies. I'd buy one anyway, because sooner or later you will find room for an aquarium at least 15 gal. You will be happy to have such fine illumination.

Can lay flat on plex.tank?

 1. I believe you can lay it on anything.

Need clarification on number of leds

 1. Thank you for your question. Yes, you will receive a fixture with 45 LEDs. The product has been upgraded and we are in the process of getting a new image shot to update the page.

Reef lighting

 1. I used to have a nano reef tank and from the lux of the light, I'd say it's only good for low light corals at no more than 12" high from the corals.

Will this light work with a 35 gallon Hexagonal tank ?

 1. LED is tons brighter and efficent plus no heat to affect tank

Do the hoods/lights fit bow front aquariums?

 1. I don't see why not but it may not go all the way across, mine didn't. If you don't mind that. I believe it would be two to three inches short.

will this work on a terrarium

 1. Thank you for your question. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-381-7179 or email Customerservice@DrsFosterSmith.com as more information is needed to better answer your question.

Can this light be used for marine fish-only aquariums?

 1. I am currently using this for my marine fish only aquarium and have no issues with it other than the cheap power button being touchy. There is no protective housing where the LEDs are located and are exposed. So I have placed the light over an acrylic area of the tank and not exposed directly to the water. I have made the assumption that any light unit exposed to salty water can be detrimental. The LEDs are very low heat which is awesome for keeping the temps in the tank stable, which is mandatory in a marine aquarium. Any fluctuations in temperatures in a saltwater tank is very bad. For the price, it is decent.

Could you use this for a reef

 1. No,this is a grneral purpose aquarium light,fish only
