Loved the set up

was able to change media without having to shut down filter. Also was able to set up reminders to change media gave constant information. the only reason for the bad review is after about 2 weeks i would get a low flow error that was impossible to fix I would take the whole thing apart clean it no clogs found but again flow would shut down and it would be a constant problem.

After an hour putting it together and trying to make it work, which it never did, it took another 20 minutes to break it down and put it back in the box to return it. $250 for a piece of crap.

I bought this a month ago and so far it is the best filter I have owned for my 55 gal saltwater reef tank. I bought it mostly for the maintenance of the filter & cartridges that was always a pain and a mess with previous filters. This G3 is a no mess, no fuss job to clean the pre-filter and change the chemical. The auto stop valve works great. There is plenty of flow for a 55 gal reef tank. Easy to set up and prime. This is a very well thought out and designed filter. I also appreciate the info screen. That was a feature I didn't really think I would care about. However, I find myself checking the EC almost daily and just learning what that tells me about what's going on in my tank. I also appreciate how it keeps track of when to clean the mechanical, chemical and biological media. The recommended cleaning of the mechanical filter is every 14 days. After my first 14 days I still had 100% flow but removed and cleaned it anyway. It was a breeze and no mess! I will continue to follow up with reviews further along but after 1 month I can say I highly recommend this filter. Greg Key, 55 gal reef tank owner , St. Louis, MO, USA

I did a lot of research before purchasing my G3,reading some of the other reviews it was hard to pull the trigger. I am so glad I did it has been 14 days running so I did my first cartridge rinse it took all of 10 minutes(will be faster next time). I had towels and a bucket on hand figuring it would be like doing my old hang on, to my surprise nothing Wow what a relief.Along with the ease of filter changes the performance is amazing unlike other reviews complaining about bubbles filling the tank it never even burped when I started it up. although I never had a water quality problem with my other filter this thing makes my water actually shine. The initial set up time was no more the a half hour everything about this filter shouts quality, it fit right in my cabinet and you never notice the intake or returns in the tank. if you are looking to upgrade or just starting out spend the $$$$ it is well worth it. My wife used to complain about the noise from the other filter and the mess I made every Sunday (that alone makes it worth the investment) now she enjoys my tank almost as much as I do. My tank is a 55 gal reef that has the happiest snail to most beautiful corals.in closing thanks fluval this is a fantastic piece of equipment keep up the great work...

Yes, I recommend this product.

is the g3 a good system for nitrate filtration on a 55 gal salt water tank having nitrate problem

Does this come with filter media or do I need to buy some separately?

      G6 Tubing Size

      1. Thank you for your question. The tubing size is 7/8."

      Does this filter monitor ph/temp/conductivity?

SEVERAL AQUARIUMS IN ONE OF THESE FILTERS

        1. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, the Fluval G Series Premium Filter can only control one aquarium at a time.

What size G-Nodes needed to completely refill Fluval G6

        1. Thank you for your question. It takes approximately two boxes to completely switch out the media for the Fluval G6 filter. We do not recommend switching out more than 50% of the media at a time.

Does the Fluval G3 and G6 have a flow control?

        1. Yes adjust with chrome lever. Fluval recommends adjusting it to the flow you need for your tank or fish

what size is the return tube (size not length)

        1. The size of the return line is 5/8ID. The size of the return line in the tank is about the same but OD. Hope this helps. Steve

Can the nitrate and phosphate filters be used in saltwater tanks, (G3 & G6) ?

        1. The phosphate cartridge is useful in salt water only, the nitrate cartridge is freshwater only. I would keep the wet-dry and add the G3.

What sponge prefilter can I use with the Fluval G3?

        1. get a foam block designed for the Hagen Aquaclear 50 and simply make an incision in the middle of the block large enough to accommodate the strainer. I had to do this myself because my mystersnails were getting sucked to death.
