Works well. I'm buying a second one. Tips: 1. Take the battery out when not in use and put it under the dish. 2. For wet food, use cans that you have put in the fridge to keep fresher longer. 3. Draw an arrow with a sharpie to always turn from high number to low. I have an aggressive eater and he has not broken mine in over a year of use. And yes its not precise to the minute or even quarter hour. Any cat that needs that precision is really running your life. Good luck.

My cats broke this after less than a month, and Catmate sent me a new one that they then broke in a few days. The timers are attached by a tiny thin piece of plastic that a hungry cat can apparently easily break. I followed the directions to attach it to a plank of wood so they weren’t able to flip it over and they still very quickly broke it. Worthless design.

This works reasonably well for awhile. However, once the battery dies, the timer starts to slow down. You set the timer for 12 hours, and at 5am when it should pop open to feed your cat...there's still an hour left, and the cat is howling for food. It's also not very precise - there are 48 hours on the dial, so you can easily be off by 15 minutes if you're trying to set it to open at a specific time. Works well if you need it to feed your cat over a long weekend while you're away; not so much as an every day early morning breakfast feeder.

There is no on/off switch so you have to store the unit open. If you want to keep it closed you have to set the timer. We use ours occasionally and 3 out of 5 times it doesn't open because the battery is dead.

This is my 3rd cat mate. The previous two lasted me many years but the last one needed replacement. This new one is the best. Much easier to clean. The plastic food bowls have curved corners and seem to be smoother so cleaning is easier. I am so glad that my existing cold packs still fit! I have accumulated 4 packs which I rotate.
