Buy Something Bigger

PoorFishy2024

This thing gets filthy within 1 week. The salesperson at Petco said it would be perfect! I thought I’d get reliable advice from them, but after a lot of research, they say a bigger tank (5-10 gallon minimum) is not only better for your betta but requires less maintenance. I want to sell this stupid tank I’ve had for less than 2 months because of his keeps happening!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Cheap, unreliable garbage

IrritatedParent

If you have a child that has really wanted a Betta Fish with all their heart and you want to kill it very slowly with a cheap tank and filter pumps that last less than 30 days, then this is the product for you. The first tank we got lasted only a few days before needing to be swapped out for another one due to a blown filter motor. The new one has now blown its filter motor as well. Really just a great way to teach your kids about how unfair life is and that everything beautiful eventually dies for completely pointless and preventable reasons.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Missing parts

JLKE

My boyfriend and I just purchased this tank. It was pretty easy to fill and start to assemble. The issue was that this product was sold to us without a filter meaning the lid and hood does not fit on as well. My partner was really excited to get and use this tank for us to not be able to. I rated this 2/5 mostly out of kindness but this is not a product we would buy again.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great size

I bought this about a month ago, and it houses one betta. While at first, the filter pushed my fish, I realized that if you left a small gap the current is not as strong. However, the filter makes noise when you do this (like a trickling of water) my friend also has one and told me her filter broke, but mine jas been fine. With a few minor adjustments, this tank is great

Yes, I recommend this product.

Perfect except for filter

I just bought the 5 gallon one cause everything on the internet says bettas should be in at least a five gallon tank and so far it’s working great except for the fact that when I have the filter plugged in, it’s current is so strong my poor little buddy can’t swim cause he’s being blown around the tank. I thought maybe the water was just too high so I took some out and same problem. It’s also very loud. I’m fine with keeping the tank but is there any other filter I could replace this one with that isn’t as strong?

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hood is a pain

KKSM

I actually purchased 3 of these aquariums. I have bettas and all needed their individual tank. As far as the tank, Tank is ok and the filters have all been working great and are very quiet. Lighting is good as well. My only complaint that I have is that the lid and hood are horrible. You need to get that chord to lay exactly perfect in order to secure the lid. Add another chord for a heater and forget it. One bump of the table and the lid falls off. Pain when I have to clean weekly I waste more time fooling with that lid. I am looking for some new tanks to replace. Tired of looking at some just laying lopsided on top of the tank. I researched before I bought them and didnt see anything at the time with this issue.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Need to replace the hood!

Hi. Just purchased the 5 gallon minibow and while I love the tank... I recently replaced the filter with aquaclear 20. But now I cannot get the hood to cover the top. Is there any recommended alternative covers for this tank?

Tank itself is fine but the filter quit working

I bought this tank about 5 months ago. I loved it when I first got it. The acrylic does scratch easily so be careful when you are putting in decor, substrate, and while cleaning. I have no issue with the tank itself. I had one bata in the tank and the filter completely stopped working after 5 months of usage. I took the filter apart and cleaned every part of it with no success. It still didn't work after attempting to clean it out on two separate occasions. You cannot purchase another filter separately, not even directly from the company who manufactures the tank. Because of the way the plastic is cut for the original filter to sit in there's not another filter on the market that I could find that is compatible with the cut out. Unfortunately, I ended up purchasing a completely different tank for my fish.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Why isn't this tank in White? Aqueon 5.0 gal with smart filter. I don't want black or grey. My everything is Ikea white. I already have the 2.5 gallon tank and it looks good. Getting a different colored tank won't exactly fit in with everything else.

  1. Hi there, this tank is actually available in white. We recommend just looking around a little bit longer to see if you can find one.

How much is it

  1. Hello! Thanks for reaching out. Please check with the retailer. Hope you have a great day!

Is this tank glass or acrylic?

  1. Acrylic

What size filter do I use for a replacement?please

  1. Since it’s a 5 gallon tank, you could get the Aqueon LED Pro 10 which is a smart filter for tanks up to 10 gallons in size. When I needed to replace the filter for the 5 gallon Aqueon Minibow, I was considering getting it to replace the built in filter for the tank you have. I ended up upgrading my tank size and currently do have the Aqueon LED Pro 10 filter and it’s awesome! I sometimes have to tap it because it will occasionally make a lot more noise than it should, but then it will stop once I tap it a few times. Cleaning it is really easy and the filter pads that get changed out have their own encasement which a very nice upgrade. I believe this filter costs around $20, but honestly, from a broke college student to a fellow fish parent, it is money well spent. However, it may be too big to put on the back of the MiniBow. Overall, just look for a filter that you can hook onto the back of your tank, and one that is made for a tank no larger than 10 gallons. Which ever filter you decide to get, I also recommend looking up a video on YouTube or instructions online for how to clean the filter you purchase to make it last longer.

Hi, I have had this tank for maybe a year and the light stopped working. How do I replace the light or replace the hood of the tank ??

  1. Hi there! We recommend visiting centralspareparts.com to see if the lights you're searching for are available there. If not, please contact us at 1-888-255-4527 so we can provide you the best assistance possible!

I've only had my tank for about 6 month and my lights went out. I only keep them on for about 8 to 10 hours a day so I don't feel like this should have already been a problem. Can I replace the lights or the lid? Or do I have to buy a whole new tank?

  1. Contact Aqueon.  I had same thing happen and they replaced the lid for free

Is this good fish food for a betta?

  1. This is a great aquarium for a betta fish. Fish food is a different category. Omega one is a good brand. Pellets are better than flakes but some bettas can be wicked picky.

can this tank fit for one betta and one green emerald catfish or one bristlenose fleco? i have a 2.2 gallon so far for the past 2 months my black orchid betta is comfortable with the bristlenose fleco and my green emerald downstairs of my house.

  1. It highly depends on the betta. Mine prefers to have all 5 gallons to himself. As such I simply have live plants in this tank and 1 betta. An emerald catfish likes to be in a group, so he might be a bit lonely on his own. Regardless the general consensus is you want 10 gallons for a single catfish. As such I wouldn't even think of placing them inside this tank.

How do I find replacement cartridges for the filter? What size are they... etc?

  1. Just go by the size of your aquarium. The aqueon filter cartridge comes in 4 sizes... XSmall for less than 5 gallons, Small for 5-10 gallons, Medium for 10-20 gallons, Large for 20plus gallons. This is my personal experience, you can always ask the fish department experts at Petco.

Is this tank big enough for two gold fish?

  1. Goldfish actually need to be in 20+ gallons! If you have one goldfish 20 gallons would be fine but for every extra one it’s another 5+ gallons. There are a few reasons for this! 1. Goldfish produce a lot more ammonia in their waste than other fish, making it difficult to keep them in a smaller tank 2. They produce a growth inhibiting hormone into the water that will often prevent them from outgrowing their tank, but it causes a lot of health issues and leads to early death.  The best way to prevent your fish from dying or getting sick is to have it in a big enough tank, which again for goldfish is 20+ gallons!
