Doxycycline

A heartworm positive dog being treated by the three shot protocol treatment. Can this dog be given doxycycline after the first heartworm treatment shot.? I ask because he was never put on 30 days doxycycline prior to the first shot. His final two shots are the 25th and 26th of this month of August. If he needs doxycycline, how much and how often should he have it. He's 48 lb 3 years old good weight

I keep hearing from many vets on here that doxycycline shouldnt be given to kittens, especially young ones a month or younger. I find this concerning as the shelter vet at our shelter has our URI protocol for all kittens to recurve doxycycline liquid for ten days. Can someone better explain to me why doxycycline isnt good for kittens? I'm just confused as our shelters vet gives doxy yo all our URI cats but many vets say doxy is a big no for young kittens

My dog just got Lyme. My vet prescribed 300 mg of doxycycline hyclate / day. My dog weighs 40 lbs, is a beagle mix, and 13 years old. He also takes "apoquel" (8 mg/day) for an overactive immune system and allergy problem. Most sites say that for a 40 pound dog the max doxycycline dosage is 200 mg/ day. Is the doxycyline dosage too high? What do you think?
