My dog has ticks, nothing works. Need affordable tick treatments?
Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear that Leo is having a tick problem. Tick protection is important because depending on where you live, Ticks can transmit many devastating tick borne diseases. There are many products out there including topicals and a few collars. Some of these products will require a veterinary prescription and some are over the counter (OTC). Topical products include Frontline Plus, Advantix, Vectra 3D, Effitix, Activyl, Paradefense, etc. There are some oral medicines out also called Bravecto and Nexgard. The two collars out there that work are Preventic and Seresto. I would advise calling your vet to at least discuss what they recommend in your area and go from there. From a cost standpoint, the Seresto collar (fleas/ticks, 8 months of coverage, waterproof) is probably the most affordable. You can look online for purchasing options. My dog escapes the yard. Is a training collar best for containment?
I think an underground fence or an electric fence that has a home base (see link below) might be the best solution. Petsafe is a good company who makes these products. It shouldn’t scare her further away but it should keep her inside the boundaries. I would keep the level on low to keep her from becoming scared to go in the yard. This is the safest thing to prevent her from getting out and either getting lost or injured. There is also a GPS tracking device for the collar called whistle that you can use to keep up with her if she still gets out. Whether or not it is safe to leave your dog at your sisters will depend on your dog. If he has never been around children before or has shown any aggression towards children, then it is less safe. No dog should be left unattended around children, so it is best if your dog hasn't been around the baby to keep it in an area separated from where the baby will be- either a separate area of the house or outdoors. Some dogs are fine with babies, others may be made anxious by the presence of a baby or they may view the baby as a prey due to small size and the funny noises the baby makes. What summer products protect my dog's paws, coat, and repel bugs?
For days where it is very hot, you do want to avoid taking your dog for a walk at the hottest parts of the day (mid-day) especially on paved areas as your dog's feet can get burned. They do sell dog booties that you can put on your dog's feet to help protect them.
