More water - Less Food in every can

Disappointed pet owner

The formulation has changed to include WAY more liquid, which means it can no longer be considered a "loaf". So now I am paying the same price for far fewer calories. My dog also hates it and I am stuck with 24 cans I just ordered. Too bad, as we really loved this product before. Will ask my vet to prescribe a different food.

Chicken does not agree with my dog. This formula change is devastating for dogs with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. I switched to Royal Canine because of Hills has chicken. May as well go back to Hills. Very sad to hear how this is change is affecting so many dogs.

Great for our dog with terminal cancer

Nels8

We were given this food after our dog was diagnosed with terminal cancer and experiencing GI issues. The vet warned us that it's not uncommon for dogs to not like the taste. Fortunately, our dog does and even when he refuses all of his dry food options, he will eat this. I would suggest people try buying a couple of cans to test instead of boxes. This food has helped keep our dog alive, so we are very appreciative.

Must taste bad

I bought this 10 days ago because my dog was ill. Occasionally he will eat it. The taste must be awful because he won’t eat it . The veterinarian said mix some boiled chicken with it ,so I did. My dog eats around the dog food to get to the chicken .

Formula change is awful

Lovemydog

Changed formula and now dog won't eat, He is a 4-pound Maltese, he spits it out and made an awful face at me when I put it by him. He started getting his seizures back so frequently. I have an appt with the vet next week. I fed him this food for years. I just had a strange feeling something changed. I decided to search the internet to see what i could find. I have cases of this as I stocked up when they got rid of the PV and PW formula. This is so disappointing. Does anyone know what to identify the new formula from the old. Any food Recommendations? Dog has IBS as well.

Missed delivery date and useless tracking

Rich711

I ordered a veterinary diet for my dog that we needed promptly. I never heard of the carrier they used, it was supposed to be delivered yesterday, and the tracking is completely useless. As of today it says that the label was created and that’s all. Will not buy from them again.

Yes, I recommend this product.

The texture of RC's hydrolyzed canned food is pretty gross and makes meal prep a little difficult at times but this formula is doing wonders for my pup. I've struggled with finding a solution for his allergies since 2019 - he's now 5 years old, will be 6 this October. Hundreds of dollars spent changing proteins, changing brands, buying allergy "supplements," buying fish oil, starting apoquel and getting cytopoint injections simultaneously has left me exhausted and over it. After speaking with our vet, I finally made the decision to try out hydrolyzed protein (we'd already tried Hill's z/d and RC Skintopic - neither of which worked though he did like the taste). I will also mirror other reviews here to note that he did have some GI issues once completely transitioned over but I feel that has more to do with the pumpkin powder I was using since this formula is already very rich in fiber to begin with. I swapped pumpkin out for a daily probiotic (pro-pectalin tablets) and his bms are perfect again. His coat is clean and soft, his itching/licking has been heavily reduced after a month of eating ONLY hydrolyzed food/treats + fresh carrots occasionally, and his energy is endless. Bonus points for him loving the taste and being excited for mealtime! Will absolutely buy again!

Questions

I just started with this wet food and it isnt like other wet dog foods. It does not “spoon” out or come out “moist” but rather it comes out “crumbly“ and in pieces. Just want to make sure it is fresh and is suppose to be this consistency?

  1. This food is very thick, I take a fork and mush it up really good and add a little water to it so it’s a little thicker then gravy. Plus my dog never drinks water anymore because he gets all the fluid he needs from wet food & the water I fix in. My 16   years cat hasn’t drank water in over 6 years because he also eats sticky can food. I do leave fresh water out every day, but they never drink it.

Is the wet HP Veterinary diet the same as the dry HP moderate calorie food? Also, the back of the can has two calorie contents-1012 kcal ME and 395 kcal ME/can. Is it the per can? My dog is on a calorie restrictive and low protein diet for pancreatitis.

  1. No the canned Hydrolyzed Protein is significantly higher in fat as compared to the HP Moderate Calorie and would not be recommended for a pet with pancreatitis

My dog is 81 lbs. How much should I be feeding him? I give him a combination of dry and wet food, but he prefers wet. I noticed he leaves his food when there is more dry food in his plate.

  1. We recommend to feed 2 cans +1 7/8 cups of dry food a day

What are the feeding guidelines for a 10 pound dog?

  1. There are none on the can. I feed my 12 lb dog about a 1/4 of the can mixed with about 2 tbls of dry kibble. that is enough for her. Hope that helps.

Can you use this for a cat? I've been looking for a wet food alternative for cats, and there isn't any available.

  1. No, the canine formula does not meet the nutritional needs of a cat

What is daily serving size per can for 60 lb dog?

  1. It depends on whether you’re feeding the dry food also. If just feeding the cans the recommended amount for a 60 pound dog is 3 cans a day. That’s very expensive! We free feed the dry Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein food and 1 can of the canned per day.
