Change in formula

CK

My dog has been on this I/D digestive care stew for 7-8 years. The most recent order has a change in color and is a thicker consistency. My dog really does not like this formula at all. I will be forced to try another food.

Thank you for your review. We are disappointed to hear of your experience. To maintain our leadership in nutritional health care for companion animals, we periodically make changes to product formulas to incorporate additional health or product design benefits. Despite the favorable benefits gained through the reformulation, our pets are creatures of habit and may need a little help to get accustomed to the change in the food. When the formula is changed, we recommend a transition from the old to the new formula over a seven day period. Please know, all of our products are 100% satisfaction guaranteed. If you would like to take advantage of this guarantee, please return the unused portion of the product to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange.

New formula...why?

SadPup

I rescued a dog from the shelter and quickly learned it had diestion sensitivites. The vet reccommended your product which worked and we had beautiful stools. Recently I bought another case of the id chicken vegetable stew for my pup and immediately we had issues. At first I thought I bought the wrong product but after looking I found I had the same product but that the formulavhad been changed. I am aggervated as much as poors pups gut and bum are. The new formula is causing all kinds of digestive upset even after a week. It is hard to see my pup like this. Not sure what was added but it is not good. Perhaps bring back the old formula as id+ for dogs with SUPER sensitive digestive issues. Currently, I am better off buying cheap food as the digestion results will be the same - jelly like poo, watery stools, lots of very messy poo clean up, gas, noisy gut sounds, and expensive vets bills just to tell me it's the food. Please bring back the old formula that is more gentle on dogs with digestive sensitivities as the new formula is too harsh.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Poodle Won't Eat it.

Linda

Within the last 2 months, Hill's has changed their formula to include the ActiveBiome technology/ingredients and my poodle will NOT eat it. He has been eating the old formula for 14 years and loves it. We now have gone to Petsmart/Banfield with a script and bought some cases of the old formula still on their shelf and will continue to do so until depleted. I don't understand why Hill's did this because they have a wet food that has Gastrointestinal BIOME in big letters. If consumers want the BIOME, they can buy that. Or, if they can make the chicken and vegetable stew I/D with the ActiveBiome but still make some with the old formula to where the consumer has a choice when they order or buy in store. When old formula is depleted, we will have to try to transition him to the new formula but prefer to have a choice. You can see the difference in the two formulas. The old one is lighter color with some obvious small pieces of chicken in it. The new formula is dark and reddish and no obvious pieces of chicken in it. Please consider giving the consumer a choice.

Super Soupy

EDawn

I as well have noticed the food to be very soupy. As a result my dog has showed disinterest in it and won't eat it anymore. She is 13 and we switched her to this food upon vet recommendation after health issues last year. Now, we have to find another food for our girl who suffers from Cushings disease.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Just bought a new case and this case the food is more of a pate and lighter in color with what looks like a green veggie in it? I checked and it’s this one that I’ve ordered for years. Not sure why this food recently has been so inconsistent.

A soupy mess

Misty

Sorry but I agree with several in that the stew is now soup. I’m pouring a third of the can out due to excessive liquid. I gave it two stars because our vet claims it’s healthy. I’m going a different route though because I’m wasting a lot on money tossing out so much liquid.

Thank you for reaching out to us. We apologize that you received a soupy canned product. It is our goal, that with each purchase of your pet’s food, that you will experience the same high quality and consistency. However, normal variations in product can occur as a result of normal variations in ingredients or processing. During the processing of this product, the chunks and gravy are combined before filling the can. The mixture is continually stirred to ensure an even distribution of chunks and gravy for each can of product. On rare occasions there may be an opportunity for settling of the mixture which causes uneven distribution of the food chunks. While a can of food containing limited chunks meets the weight requirements, it would not meet our high quality expectations. We are certainly disappointed to hear of this report and will be passing this information on to our continuous improvement teams.

Questions

1 - 8 of 8 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

Is this considered part of a "bland diet"?

  1. Yes, I would consider this food to be part of a bland diet, my dog has been eating this food for over a year and tolerates it very well. As you might already know you will need Vet prescription for this rather expensive food.

Does the 5.5 oz can come with the 'Active Biome' formula right now? Can you confirm what is the formula now and going forward?

Is this particular food still being produced? I am unable to find it anywhere, and neither is my veterinarian. Thank you!

    1. I don’t believe it has been discontinued but it is temporarily unavailable.  You might try the turkey version.

I see the minimum fat content listed but not the maximum fat content. What is it?

    1. Thank you for your question. Our Prescription Diet i/d Canine Chicken & Vegetable Stew contains 14.8% fat on a dry matter basis. Hill's Pet Nutrition

    Can cats eat canine ID?

    1. This is prescription only. Since you can’t get it without a prescription from the vet, your vet should answer this question. Typically cat and dog food are very different formulas and not interchangeable.

I have a 10 week old Australian Cattle Dog and we were sent home with this food by the vet after the poor thing had an upset stomach. I have been searching everywhere for afeeding guide. How much should I be giving him each day?I feed him 3 times a day.

    1. I don't know the exact amount of food to give your dog, but if it was my dog, I would give him about a half a can to start and see how it affects him. If it stays down OK, try a lunchtime feeding of the rest of the can. Puppies need more calories but the whole thing really depends on why his stomach is upset. I hope this is just a temporary situation and he can go back on regular food soon. I'm sorry I wasn't more help. Good luck to you.

Can I mix the Chicken with the Turkey i/d canned foods?

    1. I would.

I have 9# dog. How much she should eat a day

    1. Thank you for your question; we are happy to help. If you are feeding this food exclusively to an adult dog who weighs 9 lbs, we suggest about 1 & 1/3 12.5 oz. cans per day. This amount may be adjusted to maintain optimal weight. Hill’s Pet Nutrition
