Changed formula

Elea

My dog has been on this food for the past two years. Our most recent bag has noticeably different kibble, the shape is more flat. Right when we started the new bag, our pup got ear infections in both ears and is now on ear meds and antibiotics. She is struggling and I believe it's because of an allergen in the new formula. Since this is technically prescription food, it's very disappointing for them to change the formula with no formal notice.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Made Dog Sick: New Formula

Amanda

We have trusted Hill’s Prescription Diet i/d for years, and it was a true lifesaver for our dog with sensitive digestion. But recently, without any notice to vets or customers, Hill’s changed the formula for both the dry and canned versions. The result has been a nightmare. Our boy, who had been stable for years on i/d, suddenly developed severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration. He required emergency vet visits, repeated check-ins, and medication just to get through each day. For months we feared something was gravely wrong with him, and our lives revolved around keeping him comfortable and trying to understand why his health had declined so drastically. Only after comparing the old and new ingredient lists did we realize the truth. Hill’s quietly reformulated i/d. The change was not disclosed clearly to customers, and we had no chance to transition or prepare. The trust we once had in Hill’s is completely broken. What makes this worse is the emotional toll. It is devastating to watch your beloved companion suffer because of a corporate decision made without transparency. We have spent thousands of dollars, countless sleepless nights, and months of worry thinking our dog was sick, when in reality the food itself had changed and he is likely allergic to one or several ingredients. To other pet parents, please be cautious. Check the labels carefully, and do not assume the food you have trusted for years is the same today. And to Hill’s, you owe your customers and more importantly the animals we love far better transparency.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Change in kibble look

Lindiloo

My rescue dog with colitis issues has been on this diet for 5 years. She was never a great eater taking a full meal every 3 days or so but this last bag I received has a different look, the kibble is smaller in depth more disc like than square sided. For some reason she loves this new look food so something drastic has changed with the production. I am only noting this difference in food ( not complaining) because I am very aware of her eating habits.

My 2.5-year-old Cavapoo has been struggling with IBS, both constipation and diarrhea. After many visits to the emergency vet and her regular vet, we’ve run a variety of tests. I’ve also been home-cooking her meals—rice, chicken, and some veggies. Eventually, I decided to switch her food, and since then, she’s been eating well and her IBS symptoms have improved significantly. I now give her a combination of dry and wet food, along with treats

New formula… bad choice Hills!

Terrible formulation change. My dog has IBD and did great in the old formula. He loved the food from the start and his gut started to heal. Now with the new formula kibble is smaller, and my dog doesn’t even want to finish a bowl. He seems to now like it. Kibble color has also changed. Worst off my dog instantly went back to bloody, mucous stool right away. Why change a food like this that is made to treat a dog with medical conditions with no warning. Now I’m on the hunt for a food for my dog that already had trouble adjusting to any foods in the past. Thanks Hills!

ID Biome was the answer

ShadowsMom

My dog is 10 years old, I got him when he was a year old. He has had bouts of diarrhea every 3 days for the past 9 years. My original vet moved him to z/d formula 4 years ago, which moved the bouts to once a week. I moved to Texas a year ago and my new vet recommended ID Biome mixed 1/2 with the z/d. Within one day we went from soft poop to normal poop and we no longer have bouts anymore. This food is absolutely perfect for Jamie.

Our puppy finally has hard stools! We didn’t think it would ever happen. He’s had diarrhea for over 2 months. This food turned it all around.

Is there just one Digestive ID food even for a 25 wk old 13 lb puppy?

  1. According to the package feeding instructions, this Digestive Care I/d food can be given to dogs at any age (less than 4 months/2 pounds up to adult).  I can tell you, it has helped tremendously with our Great Dane’s food sensitivity that came about later on in life.

Is this the same or similar to Hill's Prescription Diet Dry Dog Food, Veterinary Diet, Gastrointestinal Biome Digestive/Fiber Care, Chicken? It seems close, but not exact. And at these prices, I don't want to just buy it.

  1. I don't know! I would go to the Hills website to check that out and maybe even call Hills customer service.

My veterinarian said to give 1,778 kcal/day to our dog, but I can’t find the kcal per serving in the package. Please give me kcal per cup.  Thanks!

  1. Look on Hills web site search product name and it will have feeding instructions and another tab will have caloric or call the vets office and ask how many cups to give.

what serving size for a 50 pound puppy

  1. Since Hill's Prescription Diet i/d Digestive Care Chicken Flavor Dry Dog Food must be prescribed by a veterinarian so should the feeding instructions.  Ask the vet who prescribed it.

Is there a time limit my dog can eat I'd? He likes it so I would like to keep him on it.

  1. it depends of veterinary prescription. i have a dog who eat from 2 years old. he is now 6 years old.

Where is this food made?

  1. Thank you for your question. All our foods that are sold in the United States are made in the United States. Hill's Pet Nutrition

Anyone know of a good alternative to the Rx for intestinal discomfort? Thanks.
