Disappointed

Our 8 yo Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has been on this food for over 3 years. It was going great, she was eager to eat, until this current bag we received in December (maybe the previous one received around September, can't remember for sure). But now it has taken quite a bit to encourage her to eat. It wasn't until I started digging and researching more that I realized several others seem to be having reactions to the latest bags of food. I don't know what changed, we've already tossed the previous bag once it was empty, but our dog can tell something isn't right. Like many others we are off to find a new food. I did try reaching out to RC about this issue, but they said that because the batch code on the bag was not legible (part of it didn't appear to print properly) they couldn't look into it any further. That's really disappointing.

Concerning to say the least!

I find it simply ridiculous that chicken was added with no warning! I agree with the others here that as a dog mom it is both concerning and frustrating. I have a white Bull Terrier and had his allergies under control until formula change. I am also going to return unopened bag and hopefully get refunded. I will no longer purchase. I normally wouldn’t write this but all pet owners need to be aware of chicken.

I bought the large bag of royal Canin hp. BIGGEST MISTAKE! We were 1 diarrhea poop away from putting our dog down!!!! She looked so miserable, very gassy. Poop came out like you’d turn a garden hose on. Thought it was our 11 yr old poodle/Shih tzu time. So glad we got her off this!!!

Reoccurring Illness Every New Bag of Food

I am writing to report an ongoing issue we have experienced with our dog’s food and to ask for guidance. Our 9-year-old husky has been eating the same Royal Canin formula consistently. However, we have noticed a troubling pattern: each time we open a new bag of food, our dog becomes ill for approximately one week. During this time, he experiences explosive diarrhea, excessive gas, and occasional vomiting. After about a week on the same bag, his symptoms resolve and his digestion returns to normal. This pattern repeats every time a new bag is introduced, despite there being no changes in flavor, formula, feeding amount, or transition method. His veterinary workup—including blood tests and X-rays—has been normal, which is why we are concerned there may be batch-to-batch variation, freshness, or another issue with the food We would appreciate your help in understanding: Whether there have been any recent formulation or sourcing changes If there are known sensitivities related to certain batches How we can report lot numbers for further investigation Any recommendations you may have to prevent this from happening

Bought a new bag two days ago and the food looks completely different and has upset both my dogs stomachs and they have been on it for 5+ years. For something that costs so much how can you change the formula so drastically - these dogs need it for their stomach issues we don’t need to add more to the plate.

New formula?

The kibble in the most recent bags we have purchased looks different. Our dog is less inclined to eat it and gets diarrhea when he does.

Terrible new formula - BEWARE!!!

The formula has definitely changed recently. We've been using this HP product for years, and suddenly with the most recent bag our pet has his old allergy symptoms back. He also experienced diarrhea when starting this new bag of food. For such an expense food and for the health of our beloved pets. Royal Canin should not be cutting any corners on quality or ingredients. I'm going to try and take this bag back to vet for refund and try another HP product from another manufacturer.

Questions

1 - 5 of 5 Questions

For this product do we need a vet prescription to buy it or are you guys in charge of calling my dog's vet clinic for permission to this product Or do you prefer a prescription that my dog' doctor prescribe it?

  1. You have to have a prescription to purchase this item.  If you have a hard copy you can provide during purchase process.  Otherwise Petco can reach out to your vet to verify your pet has been prescribed this product.

My dogs are used to a dry food topped w/boiled chicken & carrots or sardines or eggs. Meds in peanut butter. What can I give them in addition to the hp dry food?  They’re confused by plain dry food.

  1. My shepherd has similar experience. Hard boiled eggs and cheese on kibble and meds with peanut butter. Now I use the canned Royal Canin HP to give my shepherd her meds. I mush the pill into a ball of the canned food. Plus I put some of the canned in with her kibble. She has adapted to the change and seems OK with the new diet.

Looking everywhere and can't find any store with this in stock. I'm running low. I was able to order a bag (small) however it is also a week out and will still take time to get to me. In the future, is there ANY alternative to this food? dry or wet? Thanx

  1. Unfortunately, I don’t know. My Labrador mixed German Shepherd was very itchy so my Vet recommended this formula and it did make a big positive difference! I think the best person to answer your question is your dog’s vet. Sorry, I couldn’t help you better

what is the main protein?

  1. Hydrolyzed soy and chicken

How many cups of food are in a 25 lb bag of HP dog food

  1. There are approximately 133 cups per bag
