Description

Please note that the product information displayed is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and other third parties and is not independently verified by Petco.

Royal Canin(R) Urinary SO is a veterinary-exclusive dog food dry formula developed to nutritionally support your adult dog's urinary tract and bladder health. This formula promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the formation of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals. It helps increase the amount of urine your dog produces to help dilute excess minerals that can cause crystals and stones. Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology is used to help lower ion concentration in urine, which contributes to stone formation. And this specialized nutrition, with a reduced level of magnesium, helps dissolve pure struvite stones and prevent struvite stones from forming. Lower urinary tract issues may be a recurring concern for some dogs. Talk to your veterinarian about keeping your dog on Royal Canin Urinary SO Dog Food for long-term urinary support.

  • - DOGS WITH URINARY CONCERNS: Royal Canin Urinary SO is a veterinary-exclusive adult dog food for dogs with urinary health concerns
  • - HELPS DISSOLVE STONES: Innovative urinary tract dog food helps dissolve pure struvite stones and helps prevent calcium oxalate stones
  • - BLADDER HEALTH: Lowers the risk of crystal formation using RSS methodology for dog bladder health
  • - S/O INDEX: The exclusive S/O Index creates an environment unfavorable to crystal formation in the bladder to support urinary health
  • - HELPS PREVENT STONE REOCCURANCE: Specialized diet, with a reduced level of magnesium, helps prevent struvite stones from reoccurring

Good urinary formula, but it now has chicken

LolaVeed

My dog has been on this food for almost 2 years. It seemed to keep her stones from coming back. I was happy the formula we were buying for her was made with pork. The past year or so, this dog has become very itchy and has been having lots of problems with chronic, yeasty ears, inner thighs and paws. She is constantly licking and scratching to the point it's driving us all insane. Unbeknownst to us, Royal Canin switched from pork to chicken. We had been doing experiments removing anything with chicken from the dog's diet. We added a yeast-cleanse supplement line, we bought wipes, foams, ointments and special shampoo. None of this has worked and now we know why - her main meal consists of chicken kibble. Needless to say, we will be switching to another brand.

Life saving but expensive

This product saved my dogs life. He had bladder crystals and required an emergency life saving surgery. He’s been prescribed this food ever since and literally has had perfect stool and urine for 6+ years. I swear not one time has he had even had diareah in 6+ years since taking this food. Can’t thank them enough. However it’s super expensive, I wish they were able to make it more affordable because he has to eat this for the rest of his life.

BE PREPARED FOR PEEING LIKE CRAZY

Veterinary prescribed for urinary crystals. Dog ate it, but the poor guy peed EVERYWHERE. On our bed, all over his bed. Has to go out constantly. Didn't have this issue before. This dog foods diuretic effects are simply intolerable. Unless you're home 24/7 and can let your doggie out all the time, be prepared for a stressed out dog and a lot of cleaning up. Not a good quality of life balance. Extra star for palatability.

Questions

Is this suitable for an 8 month old small puppy

  1. This dog food is only available by prescription so I'd rely on my veterinarian to make this call. That being said and assuming they are in otherwise good health, I personally would not give this to a puppy as it is unlikely they would have the need for specialized food like this.

I just started my dog on this food and she is peeing like crazy, all over the place is this normal?

  1. Yes Unfortunately. It happened with my senior dog. I spent so much money at the vet trying to figure out what was wrong with her because she was peeing massive puddles all over the house. It didn't stop until I switched her food and that is when my vet told me that the food has a high salt content to make them drink more water to make them pee more so they don't get stones. Needless to say I switched vets and her food.

Is this hydrolyzed? My dog is SEVERELY allergic to chicken, so need to ensure that he won't have a reaction to the chicken in this urinary food.

How much water should you add to dry food? We are feeding 1/2 cup twice daily.

My dog likes the dry food but I think it smells bad. Has anyone else experienced this?

      1. Yes, it smells horrible like feces when I add water to it but my dog loves it that way. For some odd reason she want eat it dry. She will let it sit in her food bowl all day, but when I add water to eat, she can't wait to eat it.

Can you tell me where RC Urinary SO is made...US or other nation?

      1. Royal Canin is based out of Francr has 12 factories around the globe. All Royal Canin foods sold in the US are produced in US based factories.

What is in this food that helps with urinary health?

      1. This is by prescription only. You should ask your vet.

I bought a 20 lb bag of Urinary SO. When I dumped the contents into the dog food container, I found the bottom of the bag and the food were very oily. Should I return the product?

      1. So interesting. I too had a bag that was oily...and I have noticed that my dog has been throwing up often. Very odd. I asked my vet, and they checked her out...but said she was fine. Might be this oily bag of food??

      Do ship to APO addresses?

Are the kibbles small enough for a 20 lb dog to eat.  The bag for small dogs is only 8 lbs and ridiculously priced.

        1. My dog is 12lbs and it's the perfect size for her. Add some water to it, for some reason my dog loves it wet vs dry.
