Royal Canin(R) Urinary SO is a veterinary-exclusive dog food dry formula developed to nutritionally support your adult dog's urinary tract and bladder health. This formula promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the formation of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals. It helps increase the amount of urine your dog produces to help dilute excess minerals that can cause crystals and stones. Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology is used to help lower ion concentration in urine, which contributes to stone formation. And this specialized nutrition, with a reduced level of magnesium, helps dissolve pure struvite stones and prevent struvite stones from forming. Is this suitable for an 8 month old small puppy
- This dog food is only available by prescription so I'd rely on my veterinarian to make this call. That being said and assuming they are in otherwise good health, I personally would not give this to a puppy as it is unlikely they would have the need for specialized food like this.

I just started my dog on this food and she is peeing like crazy, all over the place is this normal?
- Yes Unfortunately. It happened with my senior dog. I spent so much money at the vet trying to figure out what was wrong with her because she was peeing massive puddles all over the house. It didn't stop until I switched her food and that is when my vet told me that the food has a high salt content to make them drink more water to make them pee more so they don't get stones. Needless to say I switched vets and her food.

Is this hydrolyzed? My dog is SEVERELY allergic to chicken, so need to ensure that he won't have a reaction to the chicken in this urinary food.
How much water should you add to dry food? We are feeding 1/2 cup twice daily.
My dog likes the dry food but I think it smells bad. Has anyone else experienced this?
- Yes, it smells horrible like feces when I add water to it but my dog loves it that way. For some odd reason she want eat it dry. She will let it sit in her food bowl all day, but when I add water to eat, she can't wait to eat it.

I bought a 20 lb bag of Urinary SO. When I dumped the contents into the dog food container, I found the bottom of the bag and the food were very oily. Should I return the product?
- So interesting. I too had a bag that was oily...and I have noticed that my dog has been throwing up often. Very odd. I asked my vet, and they checked her out...but said she was fine. Might be this oily bag of food??

Are the kibbles small enough for a 20 lb dog to eat. The bag for small dogs is only 8 lbs and ridiculously priced.
- My dog is 12lbs and it's the perfect size for her. Add some water to it, for some reason my dog loves it wet vs dry.

My 2 yo Lab/Ridgeback is 86 lbs yes overweight and has a urine ph of 5. I have her on grain free Taste of the Wild venison/buffalo 2.5 cups daily. Without spending $80.00 for a 17 lb bag of Royal Canin So , what dry food or treatments might you recommend for Rylee?
Noticed 12 yr. F. Lab Retriever having trouble releasing urine. Visit to vet for vaccine, felt dogs tummy and suggested ultra sound. Suggested immediate surgery because many stones seen. After surgery said most stones ever seen. I saw them, 15 lbs of stones. Says needs to be on Royal Canine Urinary SO dog food for life. She is not tolerating more than 1/2 her food being this food. Am mixing with her old food Blue Buffalo Senior. Now suggesting other Brand. Need special food for life?
Is there an otc dog food/ natural alternative to a urinary so? My dog is 10 is now 5lbs over weight and thinks she's starving 24/7. She begs for food almost all day long. She has had UtI's and then bladder stones as a result but seems to be fine on the Urinary SO besides the fact that she is now a 27 lb shitzu with knee problems. I walk her 1 to 1.5 hrs a day (2 walks) which is all her knees can handle. I need to get some weight off. What are my options? I can't decrease her food servings.
My vet has prescribed to may cat Royal canin SO (as he had Urinary disease). However, I read its ingredients, it contains lots of grain and carbs, meat quality and content are also very dubious (probably 4D meats). What is the ingredient in "royal canine veterinary diet canine urinary so" that makes it a Rx? I cannot find anything as to why you need an Rx for this food. My dog is currently on it and it is making her urinate more often but what in it is making her do that?

My cat has had Royal Canin Urinary SO normal calorie dry food for past 8 years after getting struvite stone surgery. In last 6mo. she has gone from 8lb to 6.3lb. vet says it's because she hasn't been eating well and leukemia virus, thyroid, CBC, kidney fox were normal. She started on SO wet food but only eats a little (<1can/day + Little of ad lib dry). We tried blue wilderness wet salmon food for higher protein (sarcopenia bc low protein in SO diet.) Will this help her gain/maintain weight?
