Two things every leopard gecko needs to thrive are lighting and heat. Make sure your habitat includes leopard gecko heating and a light source. You can choose to add a leopard gecko heat lamp to your enclosure which can provide both light and heat, but you’ll need to also include a heat source for the night when the light in the habitat is off.
One myth surrounding the leopard gecko is that they are nocturnal, so they don’t need any light in their habitat. This is not true. Leopard geckos need regular periods of both light and dark to regulate their sleep cycle. During the day, they sleep, bask and digest their food.
You have options when it comes to gecko lighting. You can choose to add a light-only bulb to your tank, but then you’ll need to also include a separate heat source, like a ceramic heat bulb or a leopard gecko heating pad. Another option is a leopard gecko heat lamp that provides both heat and light. The downside of this option is that you’ll need to turn the heat lamp off at night, which means you’ll have to provide a secondary heat source.
One important fact to note is that it isn’t a good idea to rely on natural light for your tank. Natural light can overheat the tank and won’t provide the UVB that supports optimal gecko health. Learn more important leopard gecko facts and information.
Not necessarily. A heat lamp can be a useful part of a leopard gecko lighting setup, but it isn’t required as long as you provide an alternate source of light and heat. Plenty of pet parents prefer to use a non-heat light and a separate heating source, like a ceramic bulb or heating pad. However, a leopard gecko heat lamp has the advantage of providing both heat and light from a single source during daytime hours.
If you are setting up your leopard gecko habitat, you can find all the supplies you need in our leopard gecko shop.
Leopard geckos require both heat and light, but pet parents have several options for how to provide those two things. Leopard gecko heating can come from a heat lamp during the day, a heat mat or a ceramic bulb. Just know that you’ll need to turn off the heat lamp at night to give your leopard gecko nighttime hours. A ceramic heat bulb provides heat with no light and is an excellent option for nighttime heating. Finally, you can pair a ceramic heat bulb with a light-only bulb for your leopard gecko lighting. This way, you can turn off the light-only bulb at night while the ceramic heat bulb continues to provide warmth for your leo.

Fancy leopard geckos need light. If I keep the red light on 24/7 as directed by, what should the temperature be?
Do leopard gecko need a heat lamp my leopard gecko has a heat mat that is 88-90 degrees?
i got a leopard gecko today and i was scared that during the night he’d get too cold, i’m having trouble keeping the temperature around 80-90. i have a day light on it already. so should i put a night red light on him to keep him warm even though he doesn’t need it?
I have a heat mat that ranges from 88-90 degrees for my leopard gecko but I know it can get pretty cold in the House can I use a (CHE)? If so how many watts is it recommended so my leopard gecko won’t get burn
I am about to get a crested gecko and have done lots of research, but am nervous I'll kill my crestie. You see, lots of people have different opinions about additional lighting. 1 breeder said a heat lamp killed many of his crested geckos, while another breeder said it killed her geckos when they DIDNT have a heat lamp. Should I get a heat lamp? (My tank is a 12 by 12 by 18, of that helps at all) Also, should that size tank be good for 1 crested gecko for his entire life?
SO i am thinking about getting a leopard gecko, but i am not spending a ridiculous amount of money on a cage so i am using a plastic laundrey hamper that seems about maybe 10 gallons and i am setting up little hiddy spots and stuff but i dont know wha tbeedding i should use and how much light they need please hep :)
Any suggestions on takin care of my baby leopard gecko better?
I have a fancy leopard gecko. His light died and all I have in the house are 15W LED’s. I cannot get to the store until Tues. will this light be okay until I can get to the pet store to get a new bulb?
My gecko, Treasure, is about 6 months old i think. Petco, where we bought him from told us that he is a leopard gecko. we aren't even sure if he's a boy either. he looks completely identical to a western banded. his daytime light went out weeks ago so we replaced it with a lightbulb in our home, but that's not warm enough for him. then today, his ultra violet light went out. we have plenty of good & water for him. he's about to shed, but he's very cold. i've tried warming him up with my body
I have just got a leopard gecko and i have settle it into its enclosure. What advice would you give for the on going care of the gecko?
What is the best way to heat hedgehog cage with lamp?
Hi there. So I am looking into getting a heat dome for my crested gecko. I know they don’t have to have a heat lam but I want him to have a UVB bulb Because it’s good for them. But I am not quite sure that type to get. Any suggestions? I was looking at petco’s tropical combo pack. He lives in a 10 g. With live plant. (I will upgrade when he is bigger) also do you know an age on him? I got him 3 months ago from petsmart. I could tell he was a male a week after I got him. (Pic from yesterday)
