I started my boys on this food because one of them needed to slim down. I started this food in December 2025 when Sunny was 18# (DSH - NM - 9yr) and now Sunny is down to about 13#. All 4 boys love this food though!

Excellent Food for Obese Cats

I started feeding Hill's Adult Perfect Weight Cat Food after I adopted an obese cat. He lost weight and once he got to an appropriate weight, I kept him on the same food to maintain it. I've had additional overweight cats and Hill's Adult Perfect Weight Cat Food is my go-to food to lose and maintain a healthy weight.

Disappointed

I have been feeding my cats this food for 1 1/2 years now and was satisfied until recently when I opened the bag there were more crumbs than food. I returned the first time that it happened and they replaced it without a problem. That beg was ok but now the next bag is again excessively crumbly.I will be returning this bag tomorrow but I am not sure what to do from here. I can't transition them to a new food because this is what I have right now and it is inedible.

We are disappointed to hear of your experience. While crumbs can occur during the production of the dry product, we have a series of screens at various locations throughout our production line to eliminate these crumbs (fines) from entering the bag so it is very rare to encounter this amount. Fines / breakage can also be created during the distribution / transportation and storage process if the bags are subjected to rough handling. We appreciate your feedback and will pass it along to the appropriate departments.

Like taste but can't have her sick when she eats

I have a 14 year old cat who has a time bitting and chewing in spite of th teeth doing fine. My question is why must you make the food in such large pieces? My cat loved a couple of your brands and fought to eat it and always ended up throwing up because of gagging swallowing such big pieces.

No, I do not recommend this product.

He loves it

My kitty is a chonk of a cat and the vet insists he needs to lose weight. I bought some other diet cat food that he hated and reluctantly ate. He finally ran out and I grabbed a bag of this at Petco. I was about to buy the bigger bag but went with the smaller because I thought he was going to hate it like the other stuff. The associate said if he didn't like it I could return it but I had no intention of returning it. Like the first one I bought, he hated it but ate it reluctantly nonetheless. I did get sticker shock when I bought this. I had grabbed the smaller bag, so I thought maybe $10 -$12, thinking around that price was expensive . It was double that, which was probably why I made some comment and why the cashier said I could return it if he didn't like it. Well my fat chonk of a cat loves this stuff. He is once again excited when his feeder goes off. Jumps off wherever he is to go gobble it all up. He was like this with the regular food I used to buy but when I changed it to the Purina diet one, the sound of kibble dispensing no longer fazed him. So it's expensive but seeing him so happy to eat it, I will stick to this one and buy again. Hopefully, we'll start seeing a change in his weight. I don't think he lost any weight on the other diet food but that was probably because all the extra eating he wolfs down in seconds. Our kid often leaves her food unattended and Mr. Fatty wastes no time in chowing it down.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I bought this food on January 30, and my 10 year old cat loves it! I was not expecting him to take to it so quickly, but I was pleasantly surprised. He has already lost a half pound.

Great kibble but not for hyperthyroid cat?

Kat

I have been a Hills Science Diet consumer for years. Both wet as well as kibble. Recently I needed to find a kibble that all 4 of my cats could eat, as I have to free feed all of them to keep my one cat with hyperthyroidism, fed on demand. This kibble met all those requirements including maintaining the weight of the other cats, as well as most importantly this kibble does not contain soy or fish oil. Or so I thought until I read that it contains both, regardless of what the label states. I need confirmation that this is the case (or not), otherwise I’m potentially putting my cat at further risk and exacerbating her condition. Thank you.

Questions

1 - 10 of 16 Questions

has the size of the food gotten smaller. i’m concerned there was a mixup in the factor and this isnt the correct food.

  1. Thank you for reaching out to us. It is our goal, that with each purchase of your pet’s food, that you will experience the same high quality and consistency. However, normal variations in product can occur as a result of normal variations in processing. These normal variations will have no impact on the nutritional value of the food and typically do not have an effect on the pet consuming the food. Smaller kibbles could be due to a new die plate: After a new die plate is installed, kibbles may appear smaller. Hill's Pet Nutrition

What is the expiration date if purchased now?

  1. Thank you for your inquiry. Shelf life varies by food type. All Hill's® dry products are guaranteed fresh until the best before date on the individual bag, provided it has been handled and stored properly. The product should be stored in the original packaging and in a dry environment below 100°F/38°C. We hope this is helpful! Hill's Pet Nutrition

Can I add wet can food to this?

  1. I don't see why not.

Has the formula for this product changed? The nuggets seem to be much smaller in the newest bag I purchased.

  1. I am having the same issue with a new bag of Perfect Weight. The round nuggets are flat on the bottom and thinner, close to 1/3 smaller, the hearts are 1/3 smaller. Unfortunately, this makes it harder for my cat to eat it and she ends up just swallowing it which leads to throwing up. Also, she seems to want more to eat, not as satisfied. She had been doing so well on this food, not losing weight, but general health wise and I would hate to look for another brand. I may return this (15 lb) bag and see if I can find the same with different codes. I have sent an email to Hill Science.

Is this good to have for a cat that is only 1 years old?

  1. Yes, it would be fine. My cats have been fed this variety since they were 1.5 years old.

How can I get weight and hairball control for my adult long-haired cat? Hill's has changed its offerings in dry cat food. She has eaten "Adult Weight-control, Hairball control" for years. She considers this the only edible substance on earth! HELP!!

  1. Have you considered staying on the weight control dry food and maybe adding a substance to their food for the hairball control. We added fish oil for awhile to help our cat with hairballs and it worked great! They are getting their daily food but with a little added flavor to help with the hairballs! I would look into something like that, there are many options on additives. Hope this helps!

How long does a bag of Science Diet dry cat food stay fresh once it's opened?

  1. It has a nice seal on the bag.    I typically purchase a very large bag and my cats haven’t turned it down.   Smells just like you just opened bag!

What is the kcal per cup of this product?

  1. As of Aug. 7, 2020, Hill’s website shows this formula to have “3409 kcal/kg (300 kcal/cup†)”.

HOW IS PERFECT WEIGHT DIFFERENT FROM LIGHT... both are weight management. I have been using LIGHT... but I noticed it's for cats up to 6 years... mine are all 8+ any suggestions, I wonder why the light doesn't work with older cats. All mine seem enjoy

  1. My older cat is overweight & was put on a diet by the vet.  Older cats are less active & burn less calories so this is the food that was recommended.  She has lost weight but I do measure the amount she gets each day. She made the change from the LIGHT with no trouble.

How is this food in terms of urinary health? I've seen reviews on other brands that say they're not "pH balanced" so they cause UTIs & crystals. I lost a kitty about a year ago to a urinary blockage, so I'm super paranoid about that type of issue.

  1. My vet said this is a good food.  I havent seen any recalls for their dry cat foods, so that makes me hopeful.  Am currently writing the company to ask point blank.
