My dog escaped, has red eye & sore snout. Should I wait for vet or ER?

Strangulation injuries can be severe and have long lasting effects. This is especially true with lung damage as it can show up after the incident. Yes a bit of redness could be normal, but from the picture it looks slightly more red than usual. That may have been due to the trauma. Hello, yes you definitely need to take him to your vet to get it checked, it's most likely a corneal ulcer, this can happen due to an injury or eye infection, often it can get worse and even cause blindness in that eye, it needs to be treated with special eye drops

Oh dear! It sounds like Barrett may have injured his eye somehow. Without being able to examine him, it's hard to say how serious this is or what kind of treatment may be needed. Eye problems like this do need to be diagnosed and treated promptly, since there is a risk of permanent damage or vision loss with any delay in treatment - because of this, I would really recommend taking him to an emergency vet tonight to have this checked. If you call your regular vet's office, their voicemail message should have contact information for your nearest emergency clinic, or a doctor on-call for emergencies.

I would recommend getting Duke to the veterinarian ASAP. If he has a penetrating foreign body to the eye, puncture, or even a deep scratch he could potentially become blind in that eye without quick intervention. I wounds are often very painful and he may require pain medication, as well as topical medication and or systemic antibiotics. But Duke really needs to be evaluated by veterinarian in person to see what type of injury he has sustained. Good luck, I hope he’s back to normal soon. Your puppy looks like it is in serious pain. The eye also looks involved and it is possible the other dog bit your puppy behind the eye lid, which could be a reason for the blood from the nose. It would be best to have your puppy seen by a veterinarian preferably tonight. Brandy will need an exam to verify there is no eye damage, fracture of any of the facial bones. She will need prescription antibiotics, and pain medicine. This will likely swell up seriously and may also impede her breathing if there is an injury to the respiratory tract in the head.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thank you for the pictures as well- poor little Rudy! Yes, you will need to take Rudy into see his veterinarian. Rudy is squinting and seems reluctant to open his right eye. He may have endured trauma or injury to his eye which may have resulted in a corneal abrasion or scratch which are quite painful and need special treatments in order to heal properly. Your veterinarian will examine the eye and will stain the eye to check for corneal injury. Rudy may need to go home with antibiotic eye medications or other medications as needed.
