Dog's eye red & swollen after collar injury. Should I see a vet?

Hi there. Yes, pressure / strangulation at the neck can absolutely cause ruptured blood vessels and sclera hemorrhage. I would visit with the instructor about other methods of training or visit with your husband about the amount of force used. If Rex is squinting his eye and you're seeing swelling, Rex should be seen by a vet right away. Swelling of the eyelids & tissue *around* the eye may resolve after trauma, but if the globe (eyeball) is injured he may need treatment to protect that eye. And if the eye is fine, he'd probably appreciate if the vet prescribed a good anti-inflammatory pain medication for his comfort!

The nose bleed is worrying indeed, but it could be related to the same trauma. if he is otherwise absolutely fine you can wait and see, monitor him closely and make sure he doesn't become lethargic. if he isn't' himself at all- take him to the ER.

Without seeing your dog in person we cannot say for certain, but it is possible that this could be a subconjunctival hemorrage. It can be a result of hypertension (elevated blood pressure), trauma, coagulopathy (blood clotting disorder). Usually this goes away on its own eventually, but if he is acting uncomfortable then a vet visit it best. They can test your dog's blood pressure, and be sure there are no signs of a bleeding disorder, and give pain medication if needed to make him more comfortable.

Poor Molly! You did the right thing by cleaning the cut off when you first noticed it. Yes, if it is looking a bit swollen and red, and she is blinking her eye more than normal, I would recommend taking her to the vet tomorrow to have this checked - these can be signs of infection, so it sounds like she may need a course of antibiotics to help resolve the problem.

I'm glad Rhea was able to be freed. The stress of the episode may account for the redness in the eyes as well as the nosebleed. If the bleeding doesn't stop, have her examined by your veterinarian. Monitor her for bruising around her neck, discomfort, lameness or difficulty breathing.

Poor girl. Because she is keeping her eye closed, it is very likely she has a scratch or ulcer on her cornea (eye surface). Because of this type of injury, Suziee Lu will need to see your vet to have the eye checked. If there is a scratch, as suspected, then she will need topical prescription eye medication to get this to heal properly. It is ok to wipe the outside of the lid with warm salt water until you can get her in to your vet for further care.
