My black lab has eye discharge and is sneezing. What's going on?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 1 year and 10 months old | 98 lbs

My black lab has some mucus in her right eye. Beyond the normal. She is also sneezing sometimes.

Hello. Sugar may have a mild upper respiratory infection. If she is eating well & is acting, playing normally, just take a little warm water & clean the eye as necessary. If you notice this eye to be redder than the other one, &/or she seems to be squinting with that eye, then there could be some conjunctivitis going on & she may need to be examined. Labs are famous for picking up tiny foreign bodies underneath their third eyelid. This can cause pretty intense irritation, so if her eye does not seem to be improving over the next few days, or the discharge intensifies, please contact your veterinarian. If his symptoms persist, he will need to see his veterinarian as he may require an antibiotic. Seasonal allergies could also cause these symptoms and rarely an infected tooth could do the same. In the meantime, keep his eyes clear of any discharge and keep him home as he may be contagious to other dogs. I hope this information helps!

My Labrador puppy has dry, pink nostrils. When to see a vet?

It looks like Tasha had some nasal discharge that dried up. If after you wipe it away with a washcloth soaked with warm water, it does not return, and she continues to eat/drink/play normally, she will likely be fine. If she continues to have nasal and /or eye discharge, starts coughing and/or sneezing, and becomes tired/lethargic, she may be developing a respiratory infection that would benefit from a vet’s visit and possibly antibiotics. My 6-month lab mix is sneezing, has yellow discharge, and scratching.

Poor Link. He could have a respiratory infection or it could be he is suffering an allergic reaction. I would take him into a vet first thing in the morning. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can treat him. Best of luck.

My dog seems sick with runny eyes, drippy nose, and a cough. What's wrong?

This sounds like she has a mild cold or upper respiratory infection. Generally these are viral colds and will run their course over a week or so. Just like with us no antibiotics are needed unless she develops a secondary bacterial infection. If the discharge becomes green and her condition worsens then please bring her right in for treatment. My dog has clear nose discharge and snores terribly. Is it a cold?

I am sorry Snoopy is having this issue. It definitely can be a cold but there are other things it can be. It can be allergies or if it is one nostril that there is discharge it can be a growth. I recommend taking Snoopy to the veterinarian and having them listen to her to make sure there is nothing settled in her lungs and it is just an upper respiratory issue. This could indicate nasal discharge, which may be a sign of a respiratory infection, allergies, or even a foreign body stuck in the nasal passage. I would clean up the area, and keep an eye on her. As long as she is acting normally and showing no signs of illness such as continuing nasal discharge, sneezing, coughing, lethargy, difficulty breathing, or a loss of appetite, it's fine to watch her. Why is my puppy wheezing and sneezing but acting completely normal?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sugar is super cute! It sounds like Sugar may be reverse sneezing. It sounds like a sucking in sneeze through the nose where they tend to hold their mouth open and grimace. I recommend searching YouTube for videos and see if that is what she is doing. It is common in some breeds (beagles). Some causes are allergies, inhaled some dust particles, foreign material stuck up the nose or above the soft palpate. If the episodes continue video tape it and take her to the Vet for an exam. I hope this helps and I wish you and Sugar the best!
