My 6-month lab mix is sneezing, has yellow discharge, and scratching.

Hello. Sugar may have a mild upper respiratory infection. If she is eating well & is acting, playing normally, just take a little warm water & clean the eye as necessary. If you notice this eye to be redder than the other one, &/or she seems to be squinting with that eye, then there could be some conjunctivitis going on & she may need to be examined. Labs are famous for picking up tiny foreign bodies underneath their third eyelid. This can cause pretty intense irritation, so if her eye does not seem to be improving over the next few days, or the discharge intensifies, please contact your veterinarian. If his symptoms persist, he will need to see his veterinarian as he may require an antibiotic. Seasonal allergies could also cause these symptoms and rarely an infected tooth could do the same. Poor Loki! From what you're describing and the appearance of his nasal discharge, it sounds like he has a pretty nasty respiratory infection. He will need prescription antibiotics to treat his infection, so I would recommend taking him to the vet tomorrow morning if possible. In the meantime, you can use a warm washcloth to gently clean off the nasal discharge to make it easier for him to breathe. You could also try bringing him into the bathroom with you while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity often help to break up nasal congestion and may make him feel a bit better until you are able to see the vet.

Oh no, poor Ruffus! From your picture, it looks like he is quite ill. I see significant discharge from his eye, and that mucus from his nose is quite thick. He could be suffering from a severe respiratory infection causing his symptoms. If he's breathing through his mouth, then it is likely because he is very congested. Ruffus could also have an eye infection causing the discharge, and any problem with the eye should be considered an emergency because it's such an important and delicate structure. He does need to see a vet immediately for these symptoms so he can be treated. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Hi there. Sneezing could be caused by allergies, or an upper respiratory infection. If he's acting fairly normal otherwise (eating and drinking fine, active, etc.) you could opt to monitor him for now and see how things go for the next few days. The problem may resolve on its own, similar to when we get a minor cold or allergy flare-up. If there is no improvement in the next 2-3 days, or if your pup develops other symptoms such as coughing, thick green or yellow nasal discharge, or begins acting very lethargic or not eating, then I would recommend having him seen by a veterinarian for treatment.

It looks like Tasha had some nasal discharge that dried up. If after you wipe it away with a washcloth soaked with warm water, it does not return, and she continues to eat/drink/play normally, she will likely be fine. If she continues to have nasal and /or eye discharge, starts coughing and/or sneezing, and becomes tired/lethargic, she may be developing a respiratory infection that would benefit from a vet’s visit and possibly antibiotics.
