My Labrador puppy has dry, pink nostrils. When to see a vet?

I wouldn't be too concerned. They can have nasal discharge that can crust over their nose. As long as she is recovering well from the pneumonia then I wouldn't worry too much. It is hard to be 100% without seeing it, so you can always upload up to 3 photos for us to see. If you notice her cough getting worse, nasal discharge getting worse, not eating, lethargic or has a fever I recommend bringing her back to the veterinarian. Hello. Sugar may have a mild upper respiratory infection. If she is eating well & is acting, playing normally, just take a little warm water & clean the eye as necessary. If you notice this eye to be redder than the other one, &/or she seems to be squinting with that eye, then there could be some conjunctivitis going on & she may need to be examined. Labs are famous for picking up tiny foreign bodies underneath their third eyelid. This can cause pretty intense irritation, so if her eye does not seem to be improving over the next few days, or the discharge intensifies, please contact your veterinarian. Poor Daisy. If the discharge is just clear and not yellow or green, then this is likely a sign of allergic rhinitis. Something in the environment is causing her to have an allergic inflammatory response in her nasal passages. However, as long as the discharge remains clear she may get over this on her own over the next few weeks. Monitor her daily for any changes and have her seen by your veterinarian if things get worse (sneezing, infection type discharge, decreased appetite, etc). But hopefully she won't need to be seen and she improves on her own.

Those colors can both darken and lighten over time. Generally speaking Labrador retrievers can be prone to hip dysplasia, ear infections, allergies, elbow dysplasia and as they get older certain types of cancer such as lymphoma and hemangiosarcoma. For this puppy you could discuss with the breeder if any testing was done on either parent such as OFA hip/Penn Hip radiographs, health guarantee or veterinary records for the puppy.

A dry or wet nose doesn’t tell us a lot about their health but dogs shouldn’t have green discharge from the nose. I recommend taking him to a vet for an exam. They may need to take an X-ray to make sure it’s not in his lungs. They can also start him on antibiotics for the infection. Good luck and kisses to Percy!

It depends. Is he still nursing? Gaining weight like the rest of his litter mates? Showing interest in what's going on? Was he examined after birth to ensure that he doesn't have a cleft palate? Was his mother vaccinated against distemper? These are all questions your have to ask yourself. A little bit of clear nasal discharge in an otherwise normal puppy probably isn't cause for concern, but if any other concerning signs are present - coughing, lethargy, not nursing and/or gaining weight and ESPECIALLY if distemper is a concern - then see a vet about this.
