My dog seems sick with runny eyes, drippy nose, and a cough. What's wrong?

Poor guy. Upper respiratory infections in dogs are usually caused by a bacterial infection. Other possible causes are a fungal infection, or allergies. It's best to take him to the vet to get examined and medications to treat this. If he does have an upper respiratory infection then he will be prescribed oral antibiotics to take care of it. Lydia most likely has a kennel cough which is a bacterial upper respiratory infection. Since she has green eye discharge and isn't drinking she probably has a fever. I recommend a veterinary exam to confirm the diagnoses and they will give her antibiotics. She will need to stay quiet and rest for a week or two while she recovers. If this is kennel cough it is contagious so please keep her away from other dogs until she has fully recovered. There is no specific treatment for a viral respiratory infection other than nursing care. However, Shelly's symptoms of clearing her throat with the discharge from her eyes could be something other than a viral respiratory infection - dogs don't get "colds" very often like people do, and I worry about the possibility of something more serious such as pneumonia, a tooth root abscess, or a heart condition, all of which could also cause either upper or lower respiratory congestion. If this has been going on more than a day or two, I recommend having Shelly seen by a vet. Your vet will do an exam, and will likely recommend chest x-rays if they have any concerns with the sound of her lungs or heart. It is very important that you have Teddy evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment.
