Why does my dog have dried boogers in one nostril? Is it serious?

This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Not sure exactly what is going on from your description. I'm assuming that there is some clear discharge coming from the nose. This could be many things including irritation from something in the air, allergens, the beginning of an upper respiratory infection, or even a foreign body in the nasal passage ways. I would advise that if it continues or starts to thicken or turn green/yellow, or other signs develop like coughing, etc you need to see your veterinarian and let them evaluate Chewie. They can do a physical exam and advise some tests if needed to diagnose what is going on depending on if it's just one nostril or both. Blood work, x-rays, or other tests may be advised. Once a diagnosis is made treatment can be recommended. Good luck with Chewie.

Saline nasal spray can help moisten the nasal passages. This needs to be 100% saline with no decongestants. If the nasal discharge persists, I would recommend having buddy looked at by a veterinarian to make sure this is not infectious or due to something else such as dry eye that needs different treatment. I am sorry Snoopy is having this issue. It definitely can be a cold but there are other things it can be. It can be allergies or if it is one nostril that there is discharge it can be a growth. I recommend taking Snoopy to the veterinarian and having them listen to her to make sure there is nothing settled in her lungs and it is just an upper respiratory issue. It could be that Luke has an upper respiratory infection causing the nasal discharge. I would try putting him in a room with a humidifier or bringing him into the bathroom with you when you take a shower to see if the steam helps with any congestion he may have. Make sure he is eating and keeping warm, and have him seen by a vet tomorrow if the nasal discharge continues.

Causes of sneezing can include upper respiratory infection, inflammation of the nasal passages (rhinitis), irritants in the environment such as dust or cleaners, foreign material in the nose, such as a piece of grass or dirt, or even cancer. If the sneezing is happening multiple times a day, I recommend having Nonnie evaluated by your veterinarian at their next available appointment. Your vet can examine Nonnie's nose and see if there is any concern for infection or cancer. I hope this is helpful!

Hello, again. I would just watch him for now. More than likely he will sneeze out anything remaining. Again, as long as he is not having any difficulties breathing, I would just keep an eye on things. He may have a bit of an upper respiratory infection going on & these are pretty self limiting after a week or so. If he is otherwise happy & eating well, he should not need antibiotics at this time. He will not inhale this into his lungs as this is pretty impossible to do through the nasal passages. So if he is not in any distress, he will be fine.
