Like all cold-blooded reptiles, turtles must bask in a warm, dry area to maintain a temperature that supports important bodily functions, like digestion, with a turtle heat lamp. That’s why it’s so important to create the correct basking conditions for your pet.
Your turtle will need a basking bulb that gives off focused heat to keep theiryour basking site at a healthy temperature and provides ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) rays for added health benefits. UVA and UVB benefits include stronger bones and improved appetite. Keep in mind, turtle habitats need warmer and cooler zones, so it’s a good idea to position your basking lamp at one end of a tank or terrarium.
Yes, turtles are cold-blooded, which means they rely on their environment to regulate their body temperature. Basking beneath a heat lamp helps turtles maintain key bodily functions, like digestion.
Turtles need a heat lamp with a basking bulb that gives off focused, consistent heat rays to keep their basking site at the right temperature.
It’s important to keep your turtle habitat from dropping below the low-end of your pet's ideal temperature range. If you don’t want to keep your turtle’s heat lamp on at night, be sure to use an alternate heat source like a ceramic heating element or under tank heater to ensure the habitat doesn’t get too cold.

What kind of lighting does a red eared slider need, I tried to look it up online but I get confused with all the types of lights... Please help!!!!!!!
How much greens should I feed my red eared slider with pyramiding and soft shell at a time.Should I feed both pellets and greens together in a day?Which heat lamp brand do you recommend and how many watts should I buy if the lamp is 21 cm away from the dock?
What should I feed my red ear slider with shell pyramiding and how often? Also which heat lamp would you recommend?Picture 1 or 2?How many watts should I get for the heat lamp?
My red eared slider is not basking even though I brought a uvb light for her just like one of the pet coach vets told me because he has soft shell.I place the light on top of a Zilla screen cover but she still don't get on.I can't really dry dock her because I have a hood for my uvb light. How can I make her to bask and is the Zilla cover okay for her?
Can my red earedmslider turtle see in the dark it with my moot heat light?
Finally I identified my turtle. It is a Chinese golden thread turtle. It is an endangered species. I want to know how to care for it. I'm also worried as it is not basking. It's eating fine. Should I make it bask by placing in a container outside or under basking lamp. Please help me.
Why isn't my turtle basking? He is just swimming in the water
It's been really sunny near where I live I do not have a basking light but I've been putting my baby turtle under some sunlight will this be enough until I get my basking light in a few weeks. He also seems to be liking it as well
I have a turtle I got as a hatchling whose shell has started to curve. I’ve read this could be due to too much protein, too weak of uv/uvb lights, or a combination that makes him grow too fast for the shell to keep up. I’m going to the pet supply store to get a new bulb tomorrow and he eats feeder fish as well as a variety (gold fish food he steals, dry meal worms, pellets from two different brands) of dry foods. How can I help him better?
How much pellets and green leaf lettuce should I feed my red eared slider with pyramiding and a soft shell? How often?Once a day? Once two days? Also if I was to get a ceramic dome for heat what kind of bulb should I buy?
Can I dry dock my red eared slider in a little container with no water and UVB or heat light provided and turn back the UVB light when I put her back on to the actual tank? Also I only have a UVB Light. Is it necessary to get a heat lamp or any other lamps for Cooper? Please answer all the questions.Thanks.
Is it safe to use a uv reptile heat lamp for newborn puppies??
