My fussy dog only eats with milk. Is it safe to add milk to his food?

Milk is very hard on a dog's digestive tract and may cause stomach upset or diarrhea. If Elma likes the taste of milk, a lactose-free variety or even "cat milk" from your local pet store (that is milk like but less hard on the stomach) may help entice Elma's eating without upsetting her stomach.

Dogs and cats are actually lactose intolerant and ingesting milk isn't an appropriate diet for an almost adult lab. Bruno needs to eat a commercial adult dog food. If he doesn't like what you are feeding him: add water or a little canned food with or without water or change brands of food. I am not sure based on your post if his appetite change is a new thing. Yes you can. Although after 4-5 weeks most puppy's cannot absorb the milk as readily and this can lead to loose stool or diarrhea. Why not try wet canned puppy food instead? This will ensure no loose stool forms.

The two brands that seem to be most palatable are Royal Canin and Purina ProPlan. Also, as long as your pet is healthy, its ok if he skips a couple meals. Dogs are smart and they often train humans to give them something else. Have him examined if illness or a medical cause is suspected. I don't recommend to give milk as it may upset Rooney's stomach. Hello. An adult dog should not need an additional source of protein if they are eating a balanced dog food well. But I see no harm in sprinkling a small amount on the food to enhance the flavor.or as a treat. You could use a teaspoon daily unless your pet is underweight or recovering from illness or injury. It could also cause digestive issues as most dogs don't tolerate lactose well. If Percy really loves it then giving a tiny tiny bit as a treat likely won't cause issues, however I would make sure you have his main diet as a high quality puppy food.
