My 1-year-old dog won't eat or drink. Is it safe to give him milk?

Dogs and cats are actually lactose intolerant and ingesting milk isn't an appropriate diet for an almost adult lab. Bruno needs to eat a commercial adult dog food. If he doesn't like what you are feeding him: add water or a little canned food with or without water or change brands of food. I am not sure based on your post if his appetite change is a new thing. Many dogs will choke a little bit if they drink a lot of water quickly. Esophageal partial blockages or pouching could also look like this but it could be hard to diagnose without either x-rays or an endoscopic exam. It is very concerning that a puppy of Jackie's age isn't eating much food. Cerelac is not an appropriate diet for a dog, he needs a puppy formulated food. Puppies need higher amounts of calcium, calories, and protein than adult dogs, and a puppy formulated food will provide that for him. When he's 12 months old, he will need an adult dog food. I do not recommend feeding him anymore celerac, and put him straight onto a puppy food. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. As for milk, it causes GI upset in dogs, so only give him water. You can add water to his dry dog food or feed him a canned puppy food to get more water into his diet. Finally, I'd have him seen by a vet for a health check. As I said above, it is concerning that he isn't eating much, and a check with the vet is always recommended. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hello, Scooby can have milk in his food as long as he tolerates it well. Some dogs may have hypersensitivity to milk proteins so if Scooby develops any diarrhea or vomiting with the milk than discontinue sprinkling milk on his food. Hope this helps and best of luck.
