My dog needs milk to eat kibble. Is daily milk safe for her?

Hello, Scooby can have milk in his food as long as he tolerates it well. Some dogs may have hypersensitivity to milk proteins so if Scooby develops any diarrhea or vomiting with the milk than discontinue sprinkling milk on his food. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Most dogs do not tolerate cows milk. As they get older they do not have the proper enzymes to digest the lactose in the milk. I do know of some people who give their dogs milk and never have any problems. Baby girl does need a regimen of regular dog food though to ensure she is getting all the proper nutrients. If Babygirl commonly has an upset stomach the milk could actually be the problem. If she commonly has problems with her stomach, I would have your vet take a look at her to make sure there isn’t something else going on like intestinal parasites or a bacterial infection. Your vet will be able to talk to you in detail about her diet and the amount of milk she is receiving and whether taking off the milk will actually be more beneficial for her and her tummy. It is not recommended to give most dogs milk. Milk can upset the tummy. Milk is safe in small amounts (like a teaspoon) but it may upset the tummy even in small quantities. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Bruno is very cute! I think you are saying that Bruno doesn't eat his dog food well but likes milk? Dogs and cats are actually lactose intolerant and ingesting milk isn't an appropriate diet for an almost adult lab. Bruno needs to eat a commercial adult dog food. If he doesn't like what you are feeding him: add water or a little canned food with or without water or change brands of food. I am not sure based on your post if his appetite change is a new thing. It is best to give Fido a formula specific for dogs as giving regular cow's milk can cause diarrhea and dehydration. Most pet stores will carry formulas such as KMR for puppies along with feeding instructions on them.

Rice and milk is not nutritionally balanced for a dog, they require a varied meat based diet. I would recommend trying alternative commercial food which have been fully balanced and slowly mix this with the food she currently likes at about 10% extra per week until at least 80-90% of her diet is dog food
