My dog won't eat dog food, only wants milk. Is milk bad for dogs?

My dog eats a little diet in a day but he loves to drink milk

I think you are saying that Bruno doesn't eat his dog food well but likes milk? Dogs and cats are actually lactose intolerant and ingesting milk isn't an appropriate diet for an almost adult lab. Bruno needs to eat a commercial adult dog food. If he doesn't like what you are feeding him: add water or a little canned food with or without water or change brands of food. I am not sure based on your post if his appetite change is a new thing. If it is a sudden change then I would consider having your Vet exam in him to see if he is sick.

Bruno would need a physical examine by your veterinarian to definitively diagnose any underlying causes for his behavior.
If you aren't doing so already, start a consistent schedule for feeding him. Dogs thrive on routine and he will come to expect food if feed at the same times daily. Prepare his dog food and leave it down for 20 minutes before picking it up whether he has eaten or not. Repeat this at the next scheduled mealtime. You can add a bit of warm water or a teaspoon of plain baby food to the food to stimulate his appetite. Do not feed him any other foods between mealtimes. Feed only dog food s rice curd is not a healthy or balanced diet for a dog.
Be firm and be consistent. Do not worry, Bruno will not starve. he will eat when he is hungry and realizes no other food or treats are forthcoming.

Some do handle certain dairy products ok while others develop tummy upset (vomit and diarrhea). If you want to give Bruno dairy products start with small amounts to see how he handles it. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Brino! I would avoid dairy or milk products, even if lactose free. If Brino is having diarrhea I wouldn't give him something he has never had before that isn't bland, it could make the diarrhea worse. If the diarrhea is bad I would not feed him for 12 hours then restart feeding with a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs until 1-2 normal stools. If the stool isn't improving in 1-2 days he should be seen by your Vet (partially do to his age and the length of symptoms) for an exam and medications. The two brands that seem to be most palatable are Royal Canin and Purina ProPlan. Also, as long as your pet is healthy, its ok if he skips a couple meals. Dogs are smart and they often train humans to give them something else. Have him examined if illness or a medical cause is suspected. I don't recommend to give milk as it may upset Rooney's stomach. Rice and milk is not nutritionally balanced for a dog, they require a varied meat based diet. I would recommend trying alternative commercial food which have been fully balanced and slowly mix this with the food she currently likes at about 10% extra per week until at least 80-90% of her diet is dog food

What food is best for my picky 7-month Lab/GSD puppy who won't eat?

Commercial diet are balanced and offer all the nutrients Bruno needs. He is a large breed so continue to offer him puppy food until he is fully grown. If possible, do not mix honey or jam as an excess of sugar intake can be detrimental for his health. I would recommend diet formulated by Hill's or Royal Canin. Why is my dog pooping less after I mixed milk with his food?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! When puppies are being weaned from their mother, you should mix puppy milk (not cow or goats milk) with canned food to get them to eat it. At Brixy's age, he no longer needs milk because he has teeth. After a certain age (usually 2-3 months) puppies cannot digest milk properly. I would transition him to a puppy food (dry food is fine, but you can add puppy canned food if you wish). It is not a problem for him to poop once daily as long as he is eating, drinking, and active and not having vomiting or diarrhea. Good luck and kisses to Brixy!
