My puppy vomits after eating and playing. Is this normal?

My golden retriever who is 8 months old may have some problems with digestion. Whenever he is in a playful mood after food,he jumps and runs but in a short while he vomits whatever he takes. Is it a problem with his digestion,specifically with my dog or its a common issue?

It is not a common issue to vomit after eating or after exercise. I don't know if this happens every time after eating or rarely. It is not common to vomit with exercise every time after he eats. If that is the case I'd have him looked at by your Veterinarian.
Things to try: Do not allow him to play after eating for 45 mins. Just keep him calm. Allow time for him to digest his meals. You could also try feeding him smaller meals more frequently so his stomach isn't so full.

ANy abrupt change in behavior or attitude or sudden symptoms should be checked by your vet. He may have overworked himself and was simply tired, but that still doesn't explain the vomiting. Deep-chested dogs like German Shepherds can have their stomach flip over onto itself when playing, especially after a meal. I would get him to see your vet today to make sure there isn't anything serious going on, and if there is, to get on top of it so it can be treated right away.

Hello there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Vomiting is not normal and this could be due to the diet or an imbalance of bacteria in the intestines. There may also be something else going on such as a systemic illness causing the vomiting. I would consider switching his food to something such as Science Diet or Royal Canin and see if a sensitive stomach formula helps stop these vomiting episodes. If the vomiting does not improve or worsens, I would recommend having Lou examined by a veterinarian and his blood be tested to see if there are any abnormal levels. I would say at his age, playing with him for about 15-30 minutes twice daily should give him plenty of exercise. Twice daily walks work well for most dogs as well, with some athletic dogs needing 3-4 walks per day. I hope this helps! Feeding right after exercise may worsen stomach upset, so I would give Fifi a bit to settle in and relax after an outing before offering food. It could be that she is a picky eater, and moistening her food or trying out a different flavor may encourage her to eat some more. You can also try offering smaller amounts more often through the day to avoid her stomach staying too empty (and causing bile vomiting) without overwhelming her with a large amount. If she vomits often, having your vet try out a prescription medication to help settle her stomach and reduce acid reflux may also be beneficial.
