Why is my Shih Tzu vomiting? Is it his food or too much exercise?

Hello, my 8month old shihtzu keeps vomiting, i have my shihtzu on pedigree wet canned food mixed with pedigree biscuits I’m worried I may be over feeding him or over walking him. I take him for an hour walk each day then one big walk ones a week maybe 2/3 hours just in parks where he is able to run around. could I be exhausting him or over feeding him causing him to vomit. He doesn’t seem tired after the walks as he still runs around. Need advice on nutrition/excersise or whyyouthinkheisvomiting

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your questions. The amount of exercise you are currently giving Hugo should be just fine and is not in any means excessive. The vomiting could be due to the food so I would consider switching his diet altogether and see if this helps. Many cases (roughly 65%) of vomiting / diarrhea can be directly related to the diet or an imbalance of the normal intestinal bacteria. If Hugo is otherwise healthy but vomiting, I would recommend changing his food to something such as Science Diet or Royal Canin and feed this for 4 weeks. If he continues to vomit or worsens, I would have a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! My shih tzu puppy is vomiting days after vaccine. What should I do?

It is a vaccination reaction if they are excessively vomiting. So if he vomited once or twice I just have people watch them. If you are concerned because it has been more then that I would recommend calling your veterinarian so they can treat him. My puppy throws up undigested food after park play. Is he sick?

It sounds as Theodore is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Why is my Shih Tzu vomiting yellow foam despite vet clearance?

I would ask your vet if they think Ziko may have inflammatory bowel disease. This disease can cause ongoing vomiting and/or diarrhea. The treatment can range from a special hydrolyzed protein diet (your vet likely carries one in their office) to medications that decrease inflammation in the GI tract such as metronidazole, prednisone, budesonide, cyclosporine). Definitive diagnosis actually require a biopsy but sometimes we will treat if we are suspicious and then monitor response to treatment. I think it is worth discussing with your vet if this is a possibility with Ziko.

My 2-month-old Shih Tzu puppy has vomiting and diarrhea. What to do?

Very small and very young dogs can quickly get dehydrated and develop low blood sugar if they have vomiting and diarrhea, so I would recommend taking Tinny Bubbles to the veterinarian as soon as possible to have her evaluated. If she is dehydrated your vet can give her fluids under her skin. They can also give her medication to stop the vomiting and diarrhea. We will sometimes recommend giving oral electrolyte supplementation such a Pedialyte at home to prevent dehydration with diarrhea, but if Tinny Bubbles is also vomiting, then she will likely just vomit it up, so she should see her veterinarian.
