My 2-month-old puppy vomited once, but is still playful. Is she okay?

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Female | 2 months and 8 days old | 1.5 lbs

Hello. My puppy, Liberty will be 2 months on tomorrow, August 21st. This morning, she vomited. It was yellowish in color. She is still the playful little Maltipoo she has always been. She only vomited that one time. Is there anything I should be concerned about? Should I take her to a Vet or just wait until her appointment on Tuesday?

I would just watch her if it was only one time and she is acting fine! If she is eating and holding that down and water that is also good news.

If she continues to vomit or becomes lethargic than try to get her seen sooner. In that case, fast her for 6-8 hours then start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice as small frequent meals. Feed 1 cup per 20lbs.

Pets can vomit sometimes. It is very important to watch T for the next 24 hours for any signs of continued illness such as lethargy, continued vomiting, diarrhea or not eating well. If this is seen, have him examined by his veterinarian. If this is related to playing too much or eating too quickly, he should be normal for the rest of the day. Yes, puppies often eat things they shouldn’t. If she’s otherwise fine, eating and playing, then I’m not overly concerned about some vomiting. If she becomes lethargic, not eating or drinking, and the vomiting continues then bring her right in for an exam and treatment. It sounds like Princess may have eaten something naughty (trash, toilet paper, paper plate, sock, toy stuffing, other) that decided to come back up. The fact that she has shown no signs today is promising. If she has eaten and kept it down, you are likely in the clear. Caveat: Do watch her closely for the next 2-3 days because if a smaller piece of whatever it was did get through and gets lodged in the intestine, you'll see lots more vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, etc. If this happens, it's time to see the vet. Why is my 10-month-old dog throwing up bile and food but acting fine?

Dogs can vomit due to many conditions from stress, to ingestion of a foreign body or toxin, eating too quickly, intestinal parasites, or viral infections. If Onyx is acting normally, you can continue to monitor her at home. I recommend holding off food and treats until tomorrow morning, and then giving her only about 1/2 of her normal portion. She should have access to small amounts of water to prevent her from drinking too quickly and causing herself to vomit. She should be seen by a vet as soon as possible if you notice that she doesn't have an appetite or energy, or begins having diarrhea. I hope this helps and that Onyx feels better soon!

Why is my puppy throwing up food and white foam after eating?

Hi and thank you for your question on PetCoach! If this is the first time in a while that Bonnie has thrown up, I wouldn't worry too much about this one time incident. It could be she ate too fast or didn't chew her food properly as the kibble and egg (?) appears to be intact still. The white foam is just saliva and mucous from the mouth and stomach lining. It is nothing too concerning. If she continues to regurgitate her food or vomit, I would see a veterinarian soon to ensure there is not something more concerning that is causing the frequent vomiting. Keep a an eye of her for the next day or so. Hey there, Okay, I think Hazel is likely fine. If she becomes depressed, inactive, and doesn't want to eat, call her vet on the emergency line. If she is still acting normally, you can just continue to watch her for now. Many dogs are sensitive to rapid food changes- in the future, try to slowly switch foods over several days. However, if this continues, she should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. However, in puppies, vomiting can be caused by parasites and dangerous viral infections. I recommend keeping an eye on Ciroc for continued vomiting, loss of energy/appetite, and diarrhea.
