How to safely transition my puppy to Royal Canin Starter food?

Congrats on the new puppy! I would definitely start slowly transitioning him to a commercial dog food. I am not sure which brands you have in your area but I love royal canin, science diet, iams, and purina. If you don't have these brands, the main thing is that you want to try to find a large breed puppy formula for him to be on until he is about 1 year old. I would start by stopping the milk as this can cause him to have an upset tummy. I would also start to slowly mix in the new puppy food and over about 10 days, increase the amount of puppy food and decrease the amount of chicken and rice. I hope this helps!

Royal canin is a great food! If you have some of the old food left I would mix The old food with the new food for about 10 days. You will want to start out with mostly old food and small amount of new food for the first few days and then gradually add more new food. By day 5-6, you should be at 50:50 of old:new dog food. After that you will slowly decrease the amount of old food until you are just giving the new food. For his size, he should get about 3 cups of the new food when you are switched completely over. You may need to adjust this as he continues to grow. I hope this helps!

Then slowly decrease the amount of milk replacement over the course of a week until Ooge is completely on solid food. You can start now. Buy a high-quality dry food and mix it in the ratio of 1/4 dry food to 3/4 of the cerelac. Feed three times/day. If the dog is tolerating the mixture after a day or so, increase the dog food to 1/2 the total and decrease the cerelac to 1/2 half the total. Then you can give 3/4 dog food to 1/4 cerelac, and finally switch over to the dog food exclusively. I am concerned that the cerelac may not have been giving the dog the nutrients he needs. It is best to get him onto dog food as soon as possible. Watch for signs of excessive weight gain, as the dog food may cause him to put on more weight than the cerleac has. After a few months you can decrease the frequency to twice/day. I am available for consultation if you have questions or need additional help.

At this age Goofy is old enough to be on regular puppy food only. However, it may take him some time to transition from the cerelac to the kibble. I would recommend offering Goofy a mixture of both foods together for a few days. Once he is used to eating that, slowly start decreasing the amount of cerelac you are adding to the food. Doing the transition slowly will help him get used to the new food. Some other brands to try that are high quality food include Hills, Purina, Royal Canin, Eukanuba, and Iams. I hope this helps. Farmina Puppy Starter is for puppies up to three months of age to assist in weaning, after which Bosco should be fed a puppy food. I would follow that recommendation, but be sure to slowly change over his food so that he doesn't get GI upset. Start by mixing together the old food and the new food, and then slowly increase the amount of new food while decreasing the amount of old food until Bosco is eating the new food only.

Hello. As veterinarians, we always love to view poop pictures, & Bear's poop looks pretty good. Just go slow with the transition. Replace only about 25% of the old food with the new taking several days at each stage. If Bear picks out the new, you can take a glass jar & mix 75% old with 25% new food, cover tightly & place in the fridge for 12-24 hours. This will allow all smells & flavors to blend. Then gradually replace more of the new food while decreasing the old. It might take a week, it may take a month, but usually you can easily transition a dog to a new food this way.
