How do I transition my 45-day-old puppy from cerelac to dog food?

To help Tobi wean and to get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with the cerelac to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and cerelac you use until he is eating the dry puppy food only. Best of luck.

At this age Goofy is old enough to be on regular puppy food only. However, it may take him some time to transition from the cerelac to the kibble. I would recommend offering Goofy a mixture of both foods together for a few days. Once he is used to eating that, slowly start decreasing the amount of cerelac you are adding to the food. Doing the transition slowly will help him get used to the new food. Some other brands to try that are high quality food include Hills, Purina, Royal Canin, Eukanuba, and Iams. I hope this helps. Celeriac is not appropriate for a 24 day old puppy. She will not be fully weaned from her mother at this age, and should still be nursing until she is at least six to eight weeks of age. After that, she will need a puppy formulated food only.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Maggies is very cute! I think that 4 weeks is too young to be taken from the mother and siblings. At this stage I would mix puppy formula with canned puppy food. If she won't eat that then you can mix the cerelac in with the canned puppy food but I personally do not like animals eating human dairy foods. Gradually over the next week or so add less and less puppy formula and more canned puppy food. Then around 5-6 weeks add moistened dry food. Hopefully by 7 weeks she will be eating all canned or dry puppy food. Good luck!

It is very concerning that a puppy of Jackie's age isn't eating much food. Cerelac is not an appropriate diet for a dog, he needs a puppy formulated food. Puppies need higher amounts of calcium, calories, and protein than adult dogs, and a puppy formulated food will provide that for him. When he's 12 months old, he will need an adult dog food. I do not recommend feeding him anymore celerac, and put him straight onto a puppy food. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. As for milk, it causes GI upset in dogs, so only give him water. You can add water to his dry dog food or feed him a canned puppy food to get more water into his diet. Finally, I'd have him seen by a vet for a health check. As I said above, it is concerning that he isn't eating much, and a check with the vet is always recommended. Good luck, I hope this helps!

The best thing you can do for your puppy is to feed him good quality complete puppy food by a reputed dog food brand such as Hill's Science Diet, Royal Canine or Purina or another your veterinary doctor may recommend. These foods are available at your veterinary doctor, in pet shops and over the internet. Do not feed your dog milk products or cerelac as it can cause gastrointestinal problems. Best stick with commercial puppy food as described above.

Human Cerelac is not an appropriate diet for a growing puppy. He should be fed a puppy milk replacer such as Esbilac or Pet-Lac. The diarrhea may be due to the diet or intestinal parasites (worms). Simba should be examined by a veterinarian. If left untreated, the diarrhea can lead to dehydration which is dangerous in puppies. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Consider a veterinary probiotic to promote gut health. You could also mix in a bit of plain yogurt if a probiotic is not available.
