How to transition my 2-month-old puppy from bland diet to dog food?

Good question! I recommend either Royal Canin Puppy food or Hill's Science Diet puppy food. Both of these companies do a lot of research and quality control and they utilize the expertise of veterinary nutritionists in formulating their diets. At this age Goofy is old enough to be on regular puppy food only. However, it may take him some time to transition from the cerelac to the kibble. I would recommend offering Goofy a mixture of both foods together for a few days. Once he is used to eating that, slowly start decreasing the amount of cerelac you are adding to the food. It's best to get him a food that is meant for large breed puppies. The brands that put the most research into these particular products are Hills and Royal Canin. There is a lot of misleading information on the front of many brands of dog food, but the most important thing on that bag is a tiny bit of writing under the guaranteed analysis called the AAFCO statement. This statement tells you what actual research went into making the product. Awww...Simba is adorable. Any diet change should be done gradually over the course of a week to avoid vomiting/diarrhea that can come from a sudden diet change. For the first 2 days feed a mixture of 75% puppy and 25% starter...for the next 2 days feed 50% puppy and 50% starter...for the following 2 days 25% puppy and 75% starter and then finally 100 % starter if there are no gastrointestinal signs during the week. I recommend that you go with a well-known brand that has a good track record of high-quality food that is well-tested. The brand you choose will depend on how you'd prefer to acquire it and how much money you'd like to spend. You can find quality food at all price points. On the lower price side, you've got brands that you can find at the grocery store, like Purina One. Middle-of-the-road brands can be found at big-box pet stores (e.g. Petco), and include Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Wellness and Royal Canin. Higher end foods can also be found at the big-box stores, but smaller company brands may be easier to find at small, private pet stores, like Innova and Merrick. Whichever you choose, be sure to change Joey's diet slowly over a week's time to prevent stomach upset. Start by mixing 1 part of the old food with 3 parts of the new food, and increase the amount of the new food over the course of about 5-7 days. Good luck, and I hope Joey grows and thrives!

You can start now. Buy a high-quality dry food and mix it in the ratio of 1/4 dry food to 3/4 of the cerelac. Feed three times/day. If the dog is tolerating the mixture after a day or so, increase the dog food to 1/2 the total and decrease the cerelac to 1/2 half the total. Then you can give 3/4 dog food to 1/4 cerelac, and finally switch over to the dog food exclusively. I am concerned that the cerelac may not have been giving the dog the nutrients he needs. It is best to get him onto dog food as soon as possible. Watch for signs of excessive weight gain, as the dog food may cause him to put on more weight than the cerleac has.
