My 5-month-old small breed puppy isn't peeing much. Is it okay?

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 8 days old | 6 lbs

Pur puppy is about 5 months old. She just does not want to pee. She maybe goes 2-3 times per day for the last 5 days. She does not look uncomfortable. Do I need to be concerned? She is a small breed. She used to go more times per day.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If you think Sophie is uncomfortable and in pain, I would take her in to be examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. If she is not uncomfortable, as you say, then she is probably just fine. Sometimes the frequency at which dogs go to the bathroom changes based on hydration and behavioral changes (not wanting to go outside much, etc.). I would keep an eye on her and if she begins to develop any symptoms such as needing to go more frequent, straining to urinate, blood in urine, etc. then I would take her in to be seen by a veterinarian.

If it is larger amounts in the house if could be a lapse in house training. If the above applies of increased frequency, urgency and straining Gracy may have a UTI. Why is my puppy peeing tiny amounts constantly but seems fine?

She may have a urinary infection or a puppy vaginitis. I recommend having a urinalysis done and an exam to see if there is a medical problem. Puppies do urinate frequently but if this is abnormal for her then please get treatment so it doesn’t worsen. Usually a course of oral antibiotics will be prescribed. My newly adopted dog isn't urinating much. Should I be concerned?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Congratulations on adopting Bella!!! If she is acting normally, most likely she has urinated and you didn't see her do it. I would think that if she was having some urinary issue you would notice some signs such as straining, licking her perineal area, possibly scooting. I would watch her closely and make sure she is not urinating in the house when no one is looking or make sure that where she lays, you don't find a urine soaked area. Good luck with Bella.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The urinary tract symptoms you describe could be due to a urinary tract infection, urinary stones, a tumor, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Bory evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further diagnostics would include abdominal imaging and lab work. Why is my puppy's pee stream thinner and faster, but he's fine?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m not very concerned about this since there are no other signs. It could be a normal change related to his maturing and/or changes in drinking habits. Go ahead and submit the urine sample to your vet to be safe but my guess is that nothing will come up. If you do see any other signs, I’d definitely take that more seriously and recommend an exam and urine test at that time. Those signs may include: increased frequency, increases amounts of urine/increased drinking, blood tinged urine, straining to urinate, accidents in the house, etc. Best wishes to you and Bruno Rider!

Is it normal for my dog to pee small amounts frequently on walks?

If Bud isn't have urinary accidents, asking to go out more to pee, showing signs of urgency then he is likely "saving" up his urine to mark. He isn't neutered and is reaching maturity. If you see blood in his urine, he is straining or starts to have accidents then you should be concerned and have him seen. Have a good day!
