Is it normal for my 8-week-old Maltipoo puppy to pee so much?

Some puppies are just fascinated by water and drink constantly regardless of thirst. The 25 ounces is about double what Wallace needs per day, dog’s typically drink 1-2 ounces per pound. Maisy may have a urinary tract infection or she may have a congenital defect with in her urinary system (ectopic ureter). If she is having small frequent accidents in the house and going frequently outside with straining and small amount that is not normal. If it is larger amounts in the house if could be a lapse in house training. If the above applies of increased frequency, urgency and straining Gracy may have a UTI. I recommend having her seen by your Vet and bringing a urine sample to have it checked for bacteria. We treat UTIs with antibiotics. I hope this helps and I wish Gracy a speedy recovery!

If it's a small bowl, then yes this amount of water may be normal. He's a young puppy, so he won't be able to hold his bladder as long, and if he's drinking a lot of water, this amount of urination may also be normal. If he has a large water bowl and you are filling it this often, then this is not normal and may be a sign of a problem. In that case, have him seen by a vet. I'm not sure how to explain the sweet smell, have that checked out by a vet as well. I hope this helps!

Hi there! It sounds like little Woody needs to visit the vet. Frequent urination can indicate a urinary tract infection (UTI). When bacteria develop in the bladder, it inflames the urethra (the tube out which a male dog urinates), and causes a dog to feel like he has to pee all the time. I would be even more suspicious of this if he has little urine coming out when he's trying to urinate. A UTI is probably not an emergency at this point, but it is likely to be very uncomfortable if this is the case. While very unlikely at this age, it is possible for the urethra to swell so much that it blocks the passage of urine, which quickly becomes a life-threatening situation. I strongly suggest bringing Woody to the vet ASAP if the frequent urination continues. In the meantime, make sure he has access to plenty of water to keep the bladder and kidneys flushed out. There isn't much that you can do for him at home safely aside from this. Do be on the lookout for blood in the urine, as this is another indicator of a UTI. It is important to differentiate between a medical problem and her learning how to be potty trained. A behavioral problem is most common at her age, but I do see urinary tract infections as well as congenital disorders. I hope this information helps!
