Why do my puppy's eyes seem to deviate from his nose? Is it normal?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think the right eye looks slightly larger than the left eye because of the pigmentation of the left eye. I do not think there is anything wrong with her eye at least based on these pictures. However, I do think that she is seriously adorable! If she develops any discharge, redness or excessive blinking, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Otherwise, she is likely going to be ok. This is quite common with pugs and I don't see anything concerning in the picture provided. Signs of a significant problem causing the sclera to be darker or injected would be excessive eye discharge, swelling around the eyes and scratching at the eyes. Considering you haven't noticed any of these problems, I would consider this normal and not a concern. If you happen to notice any of the above-mentioned problems, then it would be best to have a vet evaluate him. I hope that helps and all is well with Marcelino.

At this young age there is sometimes a problem with the muscles controlling the eye, they might be weak or underdeveloped. this usually resolves by the age of 2-3 months though, just monitor it for now and have it checked by your vet when you take Scout to his first visit.

It looks like the right eye is a little 'wall eyed' but most pets will not have any problems with this condition. While it's not 'normal', it's also not uncommon. To be certain there are not any problems, have your vet check the neurological reflexes in the eyes and the face. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It looks like Miles's third eyelid is slightly elevated on that side. Either that, or he has what is called lateral strabismus. This can occur in puppies but should resolve as he gets older. If his eye ever becomes more deviated to the left, or if the other eye starts deviating out, he should be seen by your veterinarian. Otherwise, I would give him a few weeks to see an improvement. It's hard to tell if what you are seeing is normal or not. Some people mistake the appearance of the 3rd eyelid as a problem, when really it is normal. Suede also may have conjunctivitis, or inflammation/infection of the tissue surrounding his eyes. He could have allergies that cause the redness and prominence of his 3rd eyelid, the pink tissue present in the 2nd picture. Without doing an exam and looking at those tissues and in and around his eye, it is impossible to tell. If he starts squinting, that is a sign of pain, so I would definitely take him in asap. I would recommend you take him in to your vet for an exam to see if he needs any topical treatment for his eyes or if what you are seeing is his normal anatomy.

Gucci may have been born with an abnormal nostril or he could have had an injury early in life. Regardless, I’m not sure that it will be problematic but just a cosmetic difference.
