My dog's eyes look wall-eyed sometimes. Is this normal for dogs?

This is a condition known as ventrolateral strabismus, which indicates that the there is damage to either the muscles or nerves that are attached to the eye ball. This can happen with infections, trauma, or tumors. It's best to have Nelly seen by a vet sometime soon, so they can check her for any life-threatening problems that can be potentially treated. I do not really appreciate any problems with the eyes in these photos. His right eye may have more of the sclera (white of the eye) showing at the middle corner area but I would not consider it abnormal. If you are worried I suggest you have him to a local vet for an exam. That way they can use the eye scope (ophthalmoscope) to check the eyes. Eye problems are best diagnosed in person.

At this young age there is sometimes a problem with the muscles controlling the eye, they might be weak or underdeveloped. this usually resolves by the age of 2-3 months though, just monitor it for now and have it checked by your vet when you take Scout to his first visit.

I do not think there is anything wrong with her eye at least based on these pictures. However, I do think that she is seriously adorable! If she develops any discharge, redness or excessive blinking, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Otherwise, she is likely going to be ok. This is not normal. This is something that you can see in dogs with flat faces and big eyes. Less commonly it could indicate a neurological disease. I recommend to play it safe and have Izzie checked by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

She doesn't appear walleyed in the images provided. She is absolutely adorable! Strabismus is typically hereditary. There is no treatment for inherited strabismus. Unfortunately, the certification does not include genetic testing. The parents may be of normal phenotype and appear normal, but can carry the abnormal genotype responsible for the condition.
