Why is my dog vomiting undigested rice after HGE recovery?

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 96 lbs

Honey is still recovering from a bout of HGE. This morning she began vomiting large amounts of undigested rice from the bland diet we've been feeding her. She's been getting 1C boiled brown rice and chicken every 2 hours. On my rice and bile are coming up. Should we be concerned or is she just not digesting the rice and is regurgitating it out? She is otherwise normal activity wise and has an appetite, and was given a clean check up with our vet yesterday.

I am a little concerned that Honey is continuing to vomit. I would recommend waiting at least 4-6 hours between meals to give her time to digest her food. If she is not on an antinausea medication, like Cerenia, I would recommend calling your vet and seeing if you can pick some up. If she is on an antinausea medication and is still vomiting, this is very concerning. Hopefully the vomiting will stop on its own but if it doesn't you need to have Honey rechecked.

It is possible she is having a little bit of relapse. When pets have severe bouts of HGE, their intestinal lining can be more sensitive and prone to having small bouts of vomiting periodically. However if she is still willfully eating and overall in good spirits, then I would be inclined to keep monitoring her and feeding her the bland diet for now. However if she continues to vomit or seems lethargic at any point, she should be re-examined by your vet to make sure there isn't something else going on there.
For long term management of HGE, I would suggest a prescription diet of Hill's I/D /- probiotics (i.e. Culturelle over the counter or Fortiflora- pet formulated). I hope Honey is able to remain stable and does well managing her condition. Best wishes and take care.

Dog vomiting yellow after GDV surgery and finishing antacids?

Oh no, poor pup! It sounds like her stomach is still sensitive from the GDV and resulting surgery, and it could be causing her vomiting. I would give your vet a call today to let them know you are seeing this vomiting once a day, as she may still need more antacids. The vet can prescribe more medication if they feel she needs it.

Hi, yes it could be from the food that Baby has eaten Yesterday as this could have been too rich for a small dog like her. You can try offering water over the next 4-6 hours, small amounts little and often and then offer her some bland food, like chicken and rice or white fish and rice. Hope this helps !

Dog still vomiting, won't eat after vet visit. What can I do?

It sounds like poor Henneha is very sick, and you've done the right thing by having her seen by a vet. I'm wondering if she is fully vaccinated, and if she's not, it could be that she has parvovirus. That is very serious, and it would make a dog quite sick. You can try giving her Nutri-cal, available over the counter perhaps at your local pet store, and you can offer her small amounts of Pediasure using a syringe or small turkey baster. If she continues to refuse that, then I would take her back into a vet. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

My dog vomited and has small poops. When should I see a vet about it?

I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. My dog is vomiting and won't eat. When should I call the vet?

If Shieyah is vomiting and not stopping I would recommend a veterinarian. They can provide a medication to stop the vomiting and make sure it is nothing to be concerned about, like pancreatitis or even a foreign body. If she vomited once. I would withhold food for about 6 hours and rec small multiple meals of boiled chicken and white rice or a prescription bland diet. If she gets worse after this then she needs to see a veterinarian.
