Dog rubbing eyes after tacking surgery: Is it irritation or failure?

Entropion is very common in Sharpei dogs. If it is causing a problem it does need surgical correction, and many times it will need to be repeated as a puppy grows. However if the eyelid is rubbing the eye there's the potential for corneal ulcer ration or damage said the surgery should not be delayed in these cases. It sounds like Redd either has a serious eye infection, may have suffered an injury to her eye, or could have an foreign body in it. She needs to see a vet immediately. She sounds very uncomfortable, and any eye condition should be considered an emergency. Leaving eye conditions untreated can lead to vision loss, so please take her into a vet now.

Poor Rocky! Those eyes do look irritated. He may have a distichia (a stray lash on the inside of the eyelid; as apposed the the eyelids rolling in--entropion which I think is what you are describing he had). Sometimes these cannot be found without magnification. Its also possible that he has another condition such as uveitis (inflammation inside the layer of eye that involves the retina), or he may have KCS, also known as dry eye. If a shermer tear test has not yet been done by your vet, you might ask about it; this is a simple test for dry eye. Hello, thank you for your question about Pepper. Based on the photos that you've attached it looks like Kaizer has significant irritation of her eyelids and conjunctiva. There are many possible causes for this such as infection, allergies, parasites, etc. I would recommend having Pepper seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine the area and discuss the need for additional testing. They may recommend an impression smear/swab of the affected area to look at under the microscope. They can discuss additional treatment recommendations based on their findings, such as antibiotics, antihistamines, etc. In the meantime I would recommend continuing to use the e-collar to prevent Pepper for rubbing at her eyes. It could be that Hazel is reverse sneezing. The cause of this could be due to stimulation of the lining of the sinuses by things like infection, parasites, irritants or mechanical stimulation. Given that she is seeing the vet on Monday for surgery, I would give your vet a call tomorrow to let them know you are seeing these signs in Hazel. They might want to see her tomorrow for an exam.

Her veterinarian may prescribe an eye medication to help or even check the eye for a scratch across the surface. The sutures could have irritated her eye a bit. It is possible that Poppet's eye issue could be related to dry eyes while under anesthesia, or she may have developed a corneal ulcer/abrasion incidentally. Since eyes are such delicate structures, I would recommend taking Poppet back to her vet for evaluation sooner rather than later. Be sure that she is wearing an e-collar (cone) until you can take her to the vet to prevent Poppet from scratching or rubbing her eye, as this could worsen any existing issue.
