Why is my dog's eye inflamed and watering after dental surgery?

Hello. It looks like an infection or some inflammation has become seated in the tissues under that eye. It is impossible to say if it has anything to do with the dentistry, but comparing the 2nd photo to the first, it does look like the swelling has gone down a bit. If the swelling does not seem to be bothering Penny at all, I would first try just applying a very warm compress to the swelling 2-3 times a day for 10 minutes at a time. Watch for any squinting of the eye. Could be a side effect of anesthesia. Their eyes have ointment put into them for anesthesia because they do not close their eyes when sedated and they can dry out. They could have gotten dry. If you have any saline eye drops or artificial tears you could try that today and then call your vet when they are open again

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having this problem with Poppy. If your vet numbed the eye and examined it, then the numbing solution may be wearing off which may account for her eye being more irritated now. I have never had a dog have a problem with the fluorescein stain, so I think that is unlikely to be the problem. Dogs can have problems with some medications, so if your vet gave any of the antibiotic medication while in the office, I would contact them before giving more, but if they have not given her any in the office, then they should not be a problem to start at home. Either way, I would recommend contacting your vet, so they know what is going on with Poppy. There are some pain medications that can be given, so they may recommend adding those for Poppy. I'm sorry to hear about Libby's eye, I'm sure that is quite disturbing for you! Blood in the eye can have many possible causes. There may be an infection, or some sort of trauma that has occurred. Given the recent dental cleaning and extraction I would be concerned that this may be a complication of the procedure. I would recommend calling your veterinarian tomorrow to schedule a recheck. Your vet will be able to do a thorough physical exam, look in Libby's eyes and mouth, and give you a better idea of what is going on for her. Monitor Libby carefully tonight to make sure that she is not developing other symptoms (such as lethargy, or bleeding from other places), and that she is not rubbing and bothering at the eye. If she starts to bother at it she needs to wear an ecollar/plastic cone until your vet can look at her.

This looks like a swelling of Poppy's conjunctiva as opposed to the eye itself. It could be due to an allergic reaction or infection such as conjunctivitis. She will need eye drops and antinflammatories to settle this down so go to your vet as soon as you can. In the mean time pressing a cooled tea bag on the outside of the eye can provide some relief.

Poor Bree! I recommend to call the veterinarian and tell them what you are seeing. The best way to provide the best care for Bree is to keep the veterinarian in the loop and have her examined anytime something seems different. The doctor may want to see Bree again to be safe. It sounds like your pet Daisy has a very common situation here which is a chemical burn or scratch on her cornea (surface of her eye). This is common after being groomed because shampoo or condition can get on the eye and isn't washed off properly or promptly. Poor girl. I would recommend taking her to your local vet as soon as you can to get her eye examined, tested and treated.
